Manchester United are one of at least four teams who are interested in signing Italian forward Federico Chiesa from Juventus, while Rangers have talks with Frank Lampard over their managerial vacancy. Elsewhere, Barcelona may try to sign Lionel Messi on loan from Inter Miami, and Saudi Arabia could be the hosts for the World Cup scheduled for 2034.

‘It’s not acceptable’ – Ten Hag urges Manchester United to ‘fight against’ dip in form

United target Chiesa

Manchester United are linked with a move for Federico Chiesa of Juventus, with the 25-year-old reportedly available for just £43 million.
The Sun writes: “The Italian winger has been strongly linked with a move once the January transfer window opens.
“The Red Devils are one of four clubs chasing a deal to sign Chiesa.
“Newcastle, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 25-year-old, who is valued at £43 million by Juventus.”

Lampard in talks with Rangers

Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard could be in line to take over at Rangers after holding talks with the club.
“Frank Lampard has held talks with Rangers bosses over a return to management,” reports the Mirror.
“Lampard has been out of work since his stint as Chelsea's caretaker manager came to an end in May, with the Blues winning just one of his 11 games. However, Rangers are interested in appointing Lampard as their new manager, with the former England midfielder among the potential candidates to replace Michael Beale.
“Kevin Muscat is said to have held talks with Rangers via video call on Wednesday, having returned to Japan after his side beat Shandong Taishan 1-0 in an Asian Champions League match in China on Tuesday.”

Barcelona keen on Messi return

Barcelona are considering a loan offer for Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi if the MLS team do not qualify for the playoffs, according to the Mail.
The paper states: ”Barcelona are contemplating a stunning move to bring Lionel Messi back to his boyhood team on loan in January if Inter Miami fail to reach the MLS playoffs.
“Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 when the club couldn't afford to renew his contract. He was fully expected to sign a new deal but instead gave a tearful farewell at a press conference, rather than from the Nou Camp field.
“The La Liga team is lining up a remarkable move to give Messi his chance of a proper send-off.
“If Miami fail to qualify for the MLS playoffs, the Spanish team are considering a move to sign him on loan in January - when the European transfer window is open.”

Saudi Arabia in line to host World Cup

The decision of FIFA to open bidding to countries from Asia only for the 2034 World Cup is being seen by The Independent as a suggestion that Saudi Arabia will be awarded the tournament.
“The 2034 World Cup hosts are set to be confirmed by October 2024 at the earliest, amid widespread expectation – and some criticism within the game – that Saudi Arabia will win the rights,” the paper reports.
“FIFA launched the bidding contest for the competition on Friday, giving member associations until 31 October to confirm their interest. It already represents a streamlined process, with the 2034 event only open to countries from the Asian Football Confederation and Oceania Football Confederation. That comes after Tuesday’s announcement that the 2030 event would be played across three continents in Morocco-Portugal-Spain, with the opening three games in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to reflect the centenary of the first World Cup.
“The FIFA Council’s decision has ensured all of UEFA, the African confederation [CAF], the South American confederation CONMEBOL and central American confederation CONCACAF are out of the 2034 process, because they will all have hosted World Cup games within the previous two tournaments.”
