Good afternoon and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the FA Cup quarter final clash between giant-killers Wigan Athletic and Premier League strugglers Southampton. It has been a season to forget so far for the Saints but remarkably they can yet book their place at Wembley if they can overcome League 1 Wigan in Mark Hughes' first game in charge.

Plenty of tackles flying in and if Southampton didn't believe they were in for a scrap, they do now.

Wigan have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals on three previous occasions and progressed twice, eliminating Premier League teams each time - Everton in 2012-13 and Manchester City in 2013-14.

MATCH STAT
This is only the fourth ever meeting between Wigan and Southampton and the second in the FA Cup - the Saints won 3-0 in a fourth round match in January 1986, with current Wigan boss Paul Cook playing for the club that day.

Hughes has been appointed Saints boss on a short-term contract and the no-nonsense manager will be hoping to inspire his side to victory this afternoon and seal the club's first FA Cup semi-final place since 2003.
"We've been working for two days and I've been encouraged by what I've seen. I know we've got the talent here to get the job done.
"I've been in the Premier League a long time and won a lot of points. We're looking short term for now and that allows us to focus on the job at hand.
"There's a real energy to the club, which I like. We're all pushing in the right direction and we need to confirm that by winning football matches."

Bournemouth, West Ham and Manchester City all have one thing in common: they were each knocked out of the FA Cup by the Latics this season.
But despite their prolific record against Premier League teams, Wigan manager Paul Cook insists his side are firm underdogs this afternoon.
"In our dressing room we're fully aware what we're about to engage with. We've had a great cup run. The Bournemouth home game, the draw at Bournemouth was fantastic, the West Ham game was a great game for us, the Man City game purely on the result takes all the limelight. "And now we go into a game on Sunday where people are actually saying to us it's a 50-50 game. And as a manager, and a football fan for a long time, I don't see it as a 50-50 game. I'd love to tell everyone I do, but I don't see it as that at all."

Hughes makes TWO changes to the Southampton team thrashed by Newcastle last weekend - Mauricio Pellegrino's final game in charge.
Manolo Gabbiadini, who has four goals to his name this season, partners £19.2m signing Guido Carillo up front.
Sofiane Boufal also comes into the starting XI, with James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond dropping to the bench.
