Newcastle 2-1 Manchester City result - Harvey Barnes double gives Eddie Howe's side crucial win in Premier League

Eddie Howe's side entered the final international break of 2025 on a sour note after suffering back-to-back Premier League defeats away against West Ham United and Brentford.

After securing a top-five finish last season, the Magpies have won just three of their opening 11 league matches this term and they currently sit 14th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

They are yet to win a game away from home this season, however, they are on a strong run of home form having won each of their last five home matches across all competitions at St James' Park, including two in the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side are unchanged from their 3-0 win against Liverpool. Bernardo Silva captains the side and starts in midfield alongside Nico Gonzalez.

Nico O'Reilly starts at left back, having earned his first England caps during the International Break.

Eddie Howe makes three changes to the side that was beaten 2-1 by Brentford last time out, with all of them being made to the defence.

Dan Burn is suspended after he was sent off, Kieran Trippier and Sven Botman also come out of the side. Fabian Schar, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento all come in to replace them.

Anthony Gordon is still out with a knock, so Harvey Barnes keeps his place on the left wing.
