Liverpool v Newcastle LIVE - Reaction as Arne Slot's Reds go 13 points clear at Premier League summit

Liverpool have moved 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to a 2-0 win over Newcastle.

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring, stroking home in the 11th minute after penetrating Luis Diaz's wing play, and Alexis Mac Allister put the result beyond doubt in the second half with a fine strike.

Mac Allister's goal came via a Mo Salah assist - his Premier League-leading 17th of the season.

Newcastle did not have a shot on target and posed little threat in the absence of Alexander Isak, who missed out through injury.

Salah came close to adding a third, which would have grown his lead in the race for the Golden Boot, but was denied by a fine Nick Pope save.

Arsenal's draw at Nottingham Forest allowed the Reds to extend their lead, and they duly did, despite manager Arne Slot watching from the stands as he started a two-game touchline ban.

Arsenal have a game in hand, but with Liverpool only having 10 matches left to play, the 13-point advantage feels increasingly insurmountable.

Rafa Benitez: "I will say something in favour of the manager. They [the players] know what they have to do. When they have to drop off and defend, they defend. When they have to attack, they attack with numbers. When they have to keep the ball or game management at the end, they were keeping and passing the ball. So you can see a team that has the belief that they can win and that they want to win trophies. And at the same time, they know what they have to do because the manager is doing a good job."

Steve McManaman: "Their commitment to get the job done. Their professionalism. Their game management, again was excellent. They didn't look in any discomfort today, a bit like the Man City game... They're in cruise control, aren't they? Everybody else is falling away, helping them. But what they need to do is get the right results themselves and at this moment in time they're unstoppable."

Mac Allister on how Liverpool keep winning: "I think it's the desire to win trophies. We know that this season we have the opportunity to we some and we are really happy working hard."

Szoboszlai on scoring in back-to-back games: "It's my second season so it's not a long time that I had a chance [to do so]... I'm really happy but the most important is the team. If I can score even more goals back-to-back I would be happy, but as we are first in the league I'm even more happy."

Szoboszlai on when Liverpool will feel safe: "After mathematically they have not chance to get us. We are really happy that we are 13 points clear but we will focus on ourselves."
