Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he was so "disappointed" that he turned off the television upon hearing Trent Alexander-Arnold being booed by the club's supporters at Anfield.
Alexander-Arnold, who came through the Liverpool academy to win the UEFA Champions League and two Premier Leagues - including the club’s first title in 30 years under Klopp - is leaving Merseyside upon the expiry of his contract and is expected to join Real Madrid.
After announcing his decision not to sign a new deal, he was booed by a contingent of Liverpool fans when coming off the bench in a draw against Arsenal earlier this month.
Speaking at an LFC Foundation fundraiser on Friday, Klopp insisted that Liverpool fans had been "wrong" to boo Alexander-Arnold.
The German added: "I don't want to tell you what you have to think. I can tell you what you think is wrong.
"I don't tell you [that] you should not be angry, you should not be disappointed, I tell you don't forget. This club doesn't forget.
"I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly off. Honestly, I could not have been more disappointed at this moment."

Klopp, who had come to the event with a signed Alexander-Arnold shirt for auction, concluded: "I was there. I can tell you, this boy gave absolutely everything."
However, Liverpool’s new boss Arne Slot was critical of some of Alexander-Arnold’s performances in training ahead of The Reds’ encounter with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Slot continued: "I wasn’t completely happy with every single minute of how he was on the training ground.

- After Bilbao blow, who could depart Manchester United at the end of the season?
"In my opinion, in certain moments he could do a bit more, to say it mildly, and that’s what we talked about.
"Combined with that, I said to him: ‘You are a much better defender than everybody tells you. Unfortunately, you don’t show it all the time. That’s why people sometimes say you are not’.
"If he is just at it and focused and concentrated, there are not many players that can go around him, because he’s fast, he’s agile, he has a great mentality.
"But it’s about showing that every single game, because in this world we are judged not only on the 34 games we do well, we are mainly judged on the four games we don’t do so well.
"These things we spoke about in pre-season."
