Andre Onana dropped by Ruben Amorim from squad for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James' Park

Andre Onana will take a step out of the limelight when Manchester United return to Premier League action against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. It has been a torrid week for the Cameroonian shot-stopper, whose reputation took a further hit with two costly errors which denied Ruben Amorim's side a UEFA Europa League quarter-final first-leg lead against Lyon on Thursday night.

Andre Onana has been omitted from Manchester United’s squad for their Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Sunday, according to reports.
It has been stated that Onana will miss the match at St James' Park, allowing him to "rest and disconnect".
The heavily scrutinised goalkeeper came in for more criticism following two errors in United's 2-2 draw with Lyon in their UEFA Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie on Thursday.
Thiago Almada's free-kick bounced beyond Onana for the opening goal, while the Ligue 1 side grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser when he spilt Corentin Tolisso's effort and allowed Rayan Cherki to pounce.
Onana’s image has not been helped by a spat with Lyon and former United midfielder Nemanja Matic, who described the Cameroonian as "statistically one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history."
According to Opta, no goalkeeper has made more than his eight errors leading to goals for Premier League clubs in all competitions than Onana since the start of last season.

Onana mistake 'awful, terrible, shocking', say Scholes and Carney

United legend Paul Scholes also addressed Onana’s mistakes in TNT Sports’ coverage of Thursday night’s match, and said he "needs to be better" and has had "a really poor year".
Scholes said: "He needs to be better. He's had a really poor year and talking about other teams is probably not a wise thing to do.
"I think it's something they have to think on. But you have to think budget-wise as well, where are the priorities in this team? Can you get away without spending money on a goalkeeper? He's not been quite good enough, and maybe he needs a bit of competition. It'll come down to money and what he's got to spend."
He said: "It can happen.
"If you play football, a lot of games, you can make mistakes. If you look at the season, I've made more mistakes than them in these last games and during this last month.
"The best thing is to look at the goals [that Onana conceded], the actions that Andre had in the game, and to talk to the [goalkeeping coaches]. That's the best thing to do, to help every player to show what happened in the game and what we need to improve, and then put it to the player again."
Despite that backing, Amorim looks set to hand Altay Bayindir his Premier League debut in what would be his seventh appearance of the season.
