Kyle Walker: Treble was not 'realistic goal' for Manchester City, but fourth Premier League title would be 'special'

Kyle Walker speaks exclusively to TNT Sports ahead of Manchester City's crucial Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday lunchtime. The defender says winning four Premier League trophies in a row would be "something special". He also speaks about how significant it would be for him to lift the Premier League trophy in his first season as captain of the defending champions.

'Was it realistic? Probably not' - Walker on repeating treble and being happy with season

Kyle Walker admits that winning the treble was probably not a realistic goal for Manchester City this season, but says winning four Premier League titles in a row would be "special".
City are currently second in the Premier League table, one point behind league leaders Arsenal, but they have a game in hand which means Pep Guardiola's side will claim the title if they win their remaining three games.
Ahead of City's crunch fixture against Fulham on Saturday lunchtime - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - Walker is "hopeful" their season can end on a high note despite going out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage and the EFL Cup in the third round.
"We wanted to replicate it [the treble]," Walker told his former team-mate Joleon Lescott.
The England international continued: "Was it a realistic goal? Probably not because to go and do a treble, not many teams do it. To then go and do it back-to-back would have been something special.
"At the start of the season you look back and think 'where's your motivation going to come from?' After completing such a high of what we did last season, you need to find something again.
"A lot of the lads, we spoke, and said, 'why don't we try and do it again?' It wasn't to be but to have four Premier Leagues in a row would be something special, and the FA Cup, it would still be a double. Off the back of winning the Super Cup, Club World Cup, plus these two.
"We're hopeful. The destiny is in our hands, so hopefully we can go and do it."
Walker has won five Premier League crowns during his time at City and says that after Christmas is often when City "lock in" for a title race.
"Once you get to a certain point in the season around February, that's when you lock in," he said.
"You see where you are. The table is sorting itself out. I think we always have good form just after Christmas.
"That tough period where it's cold and you're banging out games left, right and centre. We're used to that, so I think that's where we come into our own where you can see the finish line.
"Once you get to this stage now it's about getting three points on the board and moving on."
Walker was voted City's captain by his team-mates following the departure of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona last summer.
The 33-year-old says it would be "extremely special" to lift the Premier League trophy as club captain.
"One million per cent [it would be special]," he said. "The four Premier Leagues would be something collective and something absolutely incredible.
"But for me to lift it personally and that my team-mates have voted me as their captain that they want as that person to lift the trophy, that would be extremely special. Definitely not above the four in a row, though."
