Watford's manager will be asking why Cleverly was left with the difficult task of marking Mertesacker at a corner. It was a complete mis-match and now the hosts find themselves a goal down.

Iwobi's cross is too close to Gomes and the Watford goalkeeper easily collects the ball.

Welbeck is successfully challenged by Mariappa inside the penalty area and the Watford defender then proceeds to throw himself to ground, earning the hosts a free-kick.

It is all too slow and tentative from Arsenal at the moment. Definitely missing Sanchez if the first half an hour is anything to go by.

Watford are beginning to take control of this game, winning every second ball in midfield and using possession well.

Femenia drills a teasing cross towards Richarlison, but the ball just evades the Brazilian at the near post.

Watford are using the wide spaces well, only the final ball is missing.

Peyera does the hard bit as he expertly spins away from Mertesacker in midfield, but then gives the ball away with a really poor pass.

Sensing his team mate is in trouble, Iwobi covers over to help Bellerin deal with Holebas on the right. However, the Watford midfielder still manages to deliver his cross, but Cleverley takes it away from goal.

Doucoure holds off Bellerin easily before fizzing a cross into the Arsenal six-yard box, but it comes too quickly for Pereyra who can only glance his header well wide of goal.

Watford have failed to keep a clean sheet against Arsenal in 10 matches since a 1-0 away victory in 1988.
