CHANCE: Stoke City overplay from a short corner and Southampton counter with pace and purpose, but while Tadic manages to stand up and then jink past Johnson, he rips his shot well over.

Butland uncharacteristically spills an overhit Davis free-kick under no pressure, but Wanyama is in no position to capitalise.

Stoke City break forward in greater numbers and Bojan's pass gives Arnautovic the chance to let fly from 25 yards, but his high curler never threatens Stekelenburg.

Some superb one-touch football on the edge of the Stoke City box allows Southampton to work Davis into a shooting position, but the Northern Irishman skews his shot horribly and the danger is hoofed clear.

Long breezes past Pieters down the Stoke City left but his low cross is comfortably cleared by Shawcross at the near post, and Southampton have to reset.

Davis curls in a corner for Southampton that Whelan heads as far as Clasie, whose volley from just outside the box is scuffed wide.

Here's the moment when Bojan broke the deadlock...

Bojan's whipped in-swinger is headed clear by Pelle but despite Southampton's best efforts, Stoke City manage to stifle the counterattack.

Bojan neatly switches the ball out to the left and though Pieters' pass is overhit, Arnautovic manages to win a corner off Cedric.

CHANCE: Davis swings in an excellent free-kick from a deep position on the left and it finds Fonte unmarked, but the Southampton captain can only head well over.

CHANCE: Davis works a yard of space on the left to clip in an inviting cross as Pelle escapes the attentions of Wollscheid, but the Italian is falling over as he swings his boot and fails to connect with the ball.

Adam has a customary long-range attempt that flies well over the Southampton crossbar.

CHANCE: Brilliant flowing counter from Stoke City as Arnautovic switches the ball to Bojan and the Spaniard slips Shaqiri through, but Stekelenburg saves well with his feet.

Pelle almost sets Long running in on the Stoke City goal with a lovely lofted pass, but Wollscheid stretches out a long leg to hook it away.

Stoke City surge forward again and Shaqiri tries his luck from range, his rasping 25-yard drive never worrying Stekelenburg.

GOAL! Southampton 0-1 Stoke City. The visitors score the first clear chance of the game, with Bojan neatly flicking a deflected Pieters cross beyond Stekelenburg at the near post. Clinical finish from the former Barcelona man.

Clasie tries to find Davis in a pocket of space between the lines but his searching pass is slightly overhit and Stoke City counter, with the move resulting in Bojan cutting inside from the left and firing tamely at Stekelenburg.

CHANCE: Stoke City are unable to clear the ball from the resulting throw and as the visitors scramble, Tadic screws a low shot just wide from a tight angle.

Tadic runs at Johnson after a neat interchange with Davis but the former Liverpool man stands tall to make the challenge.

Fonte lofts the ball into the chest of Pelle, who brings the ball down inside the Stoke City half but sends his pass straight to Adam under pressure from Wollscheid.

Bojan drives at the Southampton defence for the first time and attempts to exchange passes with Shaqiri but Wanyama is alive to cut out the return.
