Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United notched up a third successive goalless draw as Crystal Palace held them in an attritional affair at Selhurst Park.
Manchester United survived an early Palace onslaught, with David De Gea pulling off a magnificent fingertip save to deny Yannick Bolasie’s ferocious effort from a tight angle. De Gea was forced into another key first half save when Dwight Gayle went through after a delightful through ball by Yohan Cabaye.
United had plenty of the ball but rarely threatened, with Ander Herrera spurning their best chance, losing his footing as he tried to turn Anthony Martial’s cross in from 12 yards.
Palace dominated the second half, creating several clear chances to break the deadlock. Cabaye missed the best of them, miscuing a volley just wide from Ward’s cross, before Scott Dann was inches away with a thumping header from Cabaye’s corner.
The travelling United support blasted out "Attack, attack, attack” throughout, as a sign of the discontent at Louis van Gaal’s unambitious tactics, which have seen United fail to score in 295 minutes of football.

KEY MOMENTS

10’ - OFF THE BAR! Bolasie hits the bar from a tight angle. An absolute thunderbolt and United are lucky not to be behind. Replays showed it was an absolutely magnificent save by De Gea, whose fingertips took the ball onto the bar.
11’ - CLOSE! De Gea has to tip over from Dann, who meets Cabaye's inswinging corner with a looping header. De Gea busy in the opening minutes here.
39’ - CHANCE! Brilliant chest down by Cabaye takes Schneiderlin out of the game, his through ball finds Gayle - but his right-footed shot is saved by De Gea. Gayle had to take that with his left foot.
44’ - CHANCE! Mata finds Martial, whose low cross finds Herrera, but from 12 yards the Spaniard slips as he is about to strike it and miscues it wide.
72’ - HUGE CHANCE! Cabaye misses a great chance to take the lead. Ward's cross finds the Frenchman, but he cannot make a clean connection with his volley, which bounces wide.
76’ - CHANCE! Palace almost take the lead! Cabaye's corner is met by Dann, whose header drifts inches wide. Delaney was on the line, but couldn't stretch enough to nod it in.
77’ - BIG SAVE! A loose ball falls to Gayle, whose shot lacks conviction but De Gea is still forced into a smart save at his near post.
88’ - GREAT BLOCK! Delaney makes a vital block to deny Martial, who dug out a shot from close range after a good cut back.

TALKING POINT

Are United fans starting to turn on Van Gaal? The chants of “attack, attack, attack” could be clearly heard as the travelling support grew tired of their team’s complete lack of creativity in front of goal. Palace showed the greater attacking menace and this is not the kind of performance United fans are used to. Paul Scholes had a point when he said “United are now a team you wouldn’t want to play against, but not a team you would want to play in either.”

MAN OF THE MATCH

Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace): Another classy performance by the Crystal Palace fans’ favourite. Could have capped a fine midfield display with the winner, but couldn’t quite turn it in.
