First real chances of the game for Newcastle, as Sissoko plays it out left to Haidara. The ball is fired back across to Sissoko, whose shot is saved by Forster. Jack Colback then hammers another effort in from the edge of the area, but Forster saves again.

The pre-game prediciton that Newcastle would have to score at least three to win is already proved true.

The cries of "Pardew out" grow louder.

One player who did look exciting for Newcastle so far this season is young left-winger Rolando Aarons. Unfortunately the 18-year-old is likely to be out for at least a fortnight with a hamstring injury.

Tadic finds Pelle in space. The striker spins and shoots low to Krul's right. The keeper gets down low to save before the offside flag is raised against the Italian.

Long looks a threat on the right-hand side and Tadic very composed on the left. Southampton have a good balance going forward.

Pelle now shoots from a very acute angle on the edge of the area. It bounces awkwardly, but Krul hangs on.

GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Newcastle United. Pelle with a fantastic header after relentless Saints pressure from kickoff. A beautiful volleyed cross from Betrand finds the Italian in plenty of space. He leaps high and sends it back across goal and past Tim Krul.

Calls for a penalty but Chris Foy says no. It looks like a penalty for sure! A long ball gives Shane Long something to chase. Running away from the goal, he appears to be punched by goalkeeper Tim Krul who goes to challenge him.

The corner is cleared as Newcastle enjoy their first spell of possession on the ball.

Southampton maanger Ronald Koeman looking relaxed as he sits on one of those car seats that are all the rage in dugouts these days. Liverpool will have them next season, I'm sure.

Newcastle will probably have to score three times if they want to win today, as Southampton's last six home defeats have been when they conceded that amount. As we saw with Newcastle's recent draw with Crystal Palace, scoring three still doesn't guarantee them victory, though...

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants his players to be happy when they play, or he's threatening them. I'm not really sure...

There's no Southampton debut for Sadio Mane today, after plenty of travelling playing for Senegal. His goalscoring record from midfield for Red Bull Salzburg was around one in two, something Saints fans will be hoping he brings with him.
