GOAL! Martin Skrtel with an own goal! What a disaster! Newcastle attacked down the left with Yoan Gouffran and the defender tried to cut out his cross with his right leg, only to see the ball clip off his shin and loop into his own net.

CONTROVERSY! Oh that’s a lovely turn from Suarez to win a free-kick on the right flank. He goes for the quick free-kick and sends a glorious effort over the head of Krul from 35 yards out. Sensational. But the ref says it was taken too quickly and blows the whistle. Harsh.

It’s still 0-0 at Manchester City by the way, so we need a two-goal swing – one for Liverpool and one for West Ham – to see the title come to Anfield.

Now, Raheem Sterling is a wonderful player, but he’s just produced a horrid, horrid attempt at a cross which flies miles off target and out of play.

Newcastle are playing three at the back with Taylor, Williamson and Coloccini all holding the line. Haidara and Debuchy are joining them when not in possession to make it a five. Liverpool could struggle to break them down.

Rodgers is diligently making notes on the touchline as he watches the action unfold. He can be a comical figure at times but there’s no question he is an intelligent man who is happy to switch his tactics during matches to respond to events.

LIVERPOOL CHANCE! Henderson offloads the ball to Suarez and as he slips in Sterling the midfielder is brought down. Liverpool want a free-kick but advantage is played and Taylor gets the challenge in on Sterling to prevent a shot on goal.

A couple of poor touches from Flanagan give Newcastle possession and Shola Ameobi heads down from Sissoko’s cross into the arms of Simon Mignolet.

Sturridge goes early and Gerrard flings one over the top but the striker just strays offside as the ball is delivered and the whistle goes. Newcastle were opened up though and if Gerrard gets his timing right next time, it could be 1-0.
7'
Moussa Sissoko tries to make headway down the right but John Flanagan comes across quickly to put in a tackle and halt the Frenchman’s advance.

Liverpool haven’t been as potent in the opening minutes as they have in other games this season, but they have been presented with a Newcastle team determined to shut them out today.
5'
The first chance of the game falls to Newcastle and Shola Ameobi rises to meet a corner, only to send his header off target.

If you missed it, the offensive banner Newcastle fans are trying to display reads ‘Alan Pardew is a c***’. Liverpool stewards trying to remove it as we speak apparently.

Newcastle, after a shocking second half of the season, want a good result to end it and have set out their intention with five defenders, it seems, plus Tiote and Anita. That's not the most stylish team I've ever seen, it must be said.
2'
Liverpool see plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges. Gerrard, as per usual this season, is sitting deep and twice he floats balls out to the right for Jordan Henderson.

KICK OFF! Liverpool, resplendent in red, are attacking right to left.
