FULL TIME. Liverpool’s title dream dies. Manchester City’s win at home to West Ham gives them the title but Anfield rises to acclaim its heroes anyway. Goals from Sturridge and Agger completed the comeback after Martin Skrtel’s opening own goal and it was a nice way to end what has been a superb season. Ultimately they pay for the defeat to Chelsea and draw at Palace.
Stat from Infostrada: Newcastle have now received six PL red cards on the final day of a season – overtaking Sunderland (five) as the side with most PL red cards on the final day of a season.
MAN CITY HAVE WON THE TITLE! THEY BEAT WEST HAM 2-0!
We will have four added minutes.
BOOKING! Lucas now brings down De Jong in clumsy fashion and it’s a ragged end to the match here.
RED CARD! Dummett is shown a straight red and it was a rather wild swing at the ball, if rather messy. A bizarre challenge all round and Newcastle are down to nine men.
Suarez is hurt! Liverpool attempt a quick break after a poor attempt at a free-kick from Newcastle and Dummett hacks down the Uruguayan striker.
DISALLOWED! Sterling has the ball in the back of the net after first darting into the box superbly and then finishing after Lucas’ shot found him unmarked. Offside.
Cissokho gets in a floated cross from the left but there’s not a Liverpool player in attendance to finish at the back post. Newcastle clear.
Not a lot left of this game now and the party is already starting at the Etihad. Liverpool could only win and hope, and they are fulfilling their part of the bargain.
Paul Dummett is on for Tiote as Newcastle change things up.
SUB: Sturridge comes off to bring a superb season to a close and Lucas Leiva is on in his place.
CHANCE! Gerrard whips another wicked free-kick in from the right and both Agger and Suarez narrowly fail to convert and increase Liverpool’s lead.
Here comes a change for Newcastle as Sammy Ameobi replaces Gouffran.
Tiote throws out an arm to keep Suarez away from the ball and it was borderline illegal. Still, he avoids sanction.
