Former Borussia Dortmund stalwart Marco Reus has joined LA Galaxy after leaving the Bundesliga club as a free agent.
The 35-year-old brought 12 years of service at Signal Iduna Park to an end at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, losing the UEFA Champions League final in his last appearance.
But Reus will enjoy a fresh start on the other side of the Atlantic at a club that counts David Beckham, Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among their former stars.
"We are excited to welcome Marco to the team,” said LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney.
“He is a proven winner and leader whose talent and vision for the game will integrate seamlessly into the group as we prepare for the restart of the league and the run into the playoffs.”
“Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled at the highest level of the sport, including playing in two Champions League finals for Borussia Dortmund and in the FIFA World Cup with the German national team,” added general manager Will Kuntz.
“For Marco, a two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year, to join the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is a testament to the project we are continuing to build at the club.
"We look forward to Marco’s contributions to the LA Galaxy as we enter the critical final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond.”
In a dozen years at the club, who he joined from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, Reus won two DFB-Pokal from five finals, reached two Champions League finals but failed to claim a Bundesliga title.
Reus was more successful in his pursuit of individual gongs, being named the league's Player of the Season three times and making the Team of the Season on six occasions.
The forward made 429 appearances in total for Dortmund, scoring 170 goals and recording 131 assists.
