GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 3 (35 mins - Lionel Messi pen) Villarreal 0. Messi steps up to the 12-yard mark after Ansu won the penalty kick and the Barcelona number 10 makes no mistake in squeezing his shot underneath Asenjo. That wasn't the best penalty from Messi, but it got the job done and Barca might already be out of sight.

PENALTY KICK TO BARCELONA! Gaspar trips Ansu inside the area and the referee points to the spot! That's the correct decision.

Barcelona are now taking the opportunity to slow the game down in the centre of the pitch. They have taken a full grip of this match in the last 15 minutes or so. Well on top.
    31'
Villarreal started this match brightly, but they are struggling to get out of their own half and aren't making the most of their counter attacking opportunities when they have them.

Will Emery make any changes before half time? This just isn't working for Villarreal at the moment and the former Arsenal and Sevilla boss appears to be deep in thought on the touchline.
    28'
It's a little peculiar to see Barcelona play in a 4-2-3-1 shape, but their approach has been good in this first half. They are in control and could have scored more than just two!

MESSI... blocked! That looked certain to be Messi's first goal of the season, with Ansu feeding the pass into the Argentine, but the block was made by Albiol before it could reach Asenjo.

It's not just that Ansu is fast. He is so clincal in front of goal, as he demonstrated with his two goals this evening. Koeman must be careful not to rely on him too much, but Ansu must play a lot this season.
    24'
Coutinho deserves credit for picking the pass that led to Ansu's second goal, but it must be said that Villarreal left so much space for the Barcelona counter attack to gallop into.
    23'
Emery doesn't look too happy on the touchline. It's a long way back for Villarreal from here, but it's so difficult to defend against some of Ansu's technical ability. He is so, so good!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (20 mins - Ansu Fati) Villarreal 0. It's that man (kid) again! Barcelona came flying forward on the counter attack, Coutinho fed the pass out to Ansu and the teenager had no trouble in sliding home a low finish at the near post! There was never any question over whether he would convert that chance!

Roberto over the bar! Ansu causes mayhem in the Villarreal penalty area with a clipped cross into the middle. The ball fell to Roberto, but he sends his effort over the target.
    19'
That was a symbolic moment for Barcelona. Ansu is widely seen as the future of the Catalan club and he's the one who gets the Koeman era up and running with a brilliant goal.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (16 mins - Ansu Fati) Villarreal 0. What an outrageous finish! Alba was released to the byline down the left, he cut the pass back for Ansu and the 17-year-old side-foots a powerful finish high into the Villarreal net! He did such a good job of controlling that finish! A great goal!

Pjanic is on the bench for Barcelona this evening, and there have been some suggestions that he could play the Busquets role, but it's such a specialised position.
    14'
That's three times that Busquets has given the ball away and we haven't even played 15 minutes. This was a problem for the midfielder last season. Barca still don't have a replacement for him, though.
    13'
Of course, Suarez showed Barcelona what they are missing earlier today, coming off the bench to score twice and assist another on his Atletico Madrid debut against Granada.
