That was an impressive showing from Barcelona as the Koeman era gets off and running with an emphatic victory. Ansu was the main man for the Catalans, but Messi, Alba and De Jong can also be pleased with their performances. It must also be said that Villarreal were dreadful, though. They just didn't show up.
FULL TIME: Barcelona 4-0 Villarreal
This contest was settled a long time ago. Barcelona have coasted through the second half, but Koeman will surely be very pleased with the first half performance of his new team.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
Pjanic shoots over! The Bosnian is allowed to take a freekick on the edge of the box by Messi, but Pjanic shoots over the target when he probably should have tested Asenjo.
Messi shot is saved! Trincao's initial effort is saved by Asensjo, the ball falls to Messi who scoops another shot towards goal, but the Villarreal goalkeeper pushes it over his crossbar.
What a pass! Kubo certainly wants to leave an impression on the club he used to be on the books of, picking a wonderful pass to Trigueros inside the area, but his shot is blocked!
... and Bacca is also thrown on by Emery. Can he grab Villarreal a late consolation goal?

Kubo has made a bit of a difference for Villarreal since coming off the bench. The on loan Real Madrid player is keen to make an impression at the Camp Nou and is full of energy.
Barcelona have been by far and away the better team this evening. A number of players have impressed, but Griezmann will be disappointed he wasn't able to make more of an impact.
Kubo got the byline! Villarreal threaten the Barcelona goal for the first time in this second half, with Kubo crossing a ball to the near post, but nobody gambled and Neto saved with his feet.
Pjanic replaces Busquets for the final 10 minutes. Could the Bosnian become a first team figure for Barca ahead of the veteran?

This has been a desperately disappointing performance from Villarreal. They have improved in the second half, but the bar was so low after conceding four goals in the first half.
Here comes Kubo, the on loan Real Madrid attacker who impressed at Real Mallorca last season.

De Jong is dispossed! Parejo wins the ball from the Dutchman on the edge of the Barcelona box, but Pique makes the block to stop Villarreal from getting one back on the board.
