Marcelo is another Real Madrid player who has enjoyed something of a renaissance of late. The Brazilian looked as good as finished at the end of last season, but he has found form again.

Isco has been very involved in the early stages of this match. He was very good against PSG during the week and has carried that form into this game. He should have done better with that last chance, though.

Big chance for Isco! He should have done better with that! Carvajal controlled a pass into the box, set it up nicely for Isco, but he leaned back and whipped his effort from 15 yards out over the crossbar.

Of course, the marquee match in La Liga this weekend is the one between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid tomorrow night. Real Madrid will want three points to make the most of that clash.

Real Madrid won a corner kick with the ball eventually played into the middle. Just for a moment it seemed that Benzema had got in behind, but the flag was up for a clear offside.

There were protests from Alaves a few moments ago. They wanted a handball in the box, but there was nothing really in it. They believed Militao handled the ball from a cross.

Real Madrid are playing with so much more confidence than they were just a few weeks ago, but this will be a real test for them. Alaves are proving stiff opposition in this first half.

After a rather cautious, conservative start from both teams this match has opened up in the last few minutes. Alaves come forward, then Real Madrid come forward.. entertaining so far.

That Bale chance should serve as a warning to Alaves. They have held their own over the early exchanges of the match, but they need to stay alert at the back or they will be punished.

Off the post! That was inches away from being an opener for Real Madrid! It was Bale! Isco played a cross into the box, Bale gets on the end of it, but could only guide his header on to the woodwork!

Areola comes out to gather a cross played to Perez at the back post. The former PSG goalkeeper appears to be better at coming for balls than Courtois. Not so good at distribution, though.

Vidal goes down inside the penalty area, he wants a spot kick... but the former Barcelona man is booked for diving!

Burke is on the bench for Alaves this afternoon. The Scotland international has struggled to find form in recent years, but has played relatively well for Alaves since joining in the summer.

The rain is pouring down in the Basque country. Alaves have made this a difficult place to come in La Liga this season and they look well-organised and well-drilled early on here.

Valverde has been dropped to the bench for this match. The young Uruguayan has arguably been the biggest success story of Real Madrid's season so far, but he's been rested.

This is the first time that Bale has started since 'Wales, golf, Madrid'-gate. He has come off the bench in the last two games and has made an impression both times. He's in good form.

There have been signs in recent weeks that Real Madrid are starting to build momentum under Zidane after a very sticky start to the season. Unbeaten in their last seven matches.

Real Madrid come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to PSG in the Champions League. They were leading 2-0 in that match and then lost two late goals. A sign of weakness?
