That win moves Barcelona to within touching distance of the Liga title. A Valencia win over Atletico Madrid tomorrow evening will see the Catalans crowned champions once again. This was a routine victory for Valverde's men, with Messi and Alba both given something of a rest.
FULL TIME: Alaves 0-2 Barcelona
Alaves haven't played that poorly, but they have been lacking in real quality in the attacking third of the pitch. They will rue not taking those chances at the end of the first half.
Skewed well wide! Coutinho wanted to stick the ball in at the near post after being set up by Messi, but the Brazilian playmaker gets it all wrong and sends his effort well wide of the target.
Four minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
Alena comes off. The youngster impressed for Barcelona this evening, opening the scoring.
Of course, Barcelona have Liverpool in the semi finals of the Champions League next week. The Catalans are on a mission to be crowned European champions again this season.
Valverde will be pleased that Umtiti has managed to get through 90 minutes of this match. The French defender has struggled for match sharpness since returning from injury.
It should be noted that Coutinho has played well for Barcelona tonight. After a poor run of form over the winter, the Brazilian is starting to look a little more comfortable in this team.
Winning the league tomorrow night, through a Valencia win over Atleti, would allow Barcelona to rest some players in their final few games ahead of those matches against Liverpool.
PICTURE: Suarez converts from the spot to put Barca 2-0 up.
On comes Guidetti, who has scored three times in five past appearancs against Barcelona.
Vidal should score! Suarez plays a wonderful ball to the back post where the Chilean midfielder had lost his marker. But Vidal manages to put his header over when he should have scored.
Coutinho enters the book for a sliding tackle that was made earlier in the play.
Yellow card
I. Lukjanovs
So close to an Alaves goal! That must have been inches away from a Jony goal! He wrong-footed Ter Stegen by taking the shot on early from distance, but the ball flashes just past the near post.
So just to recap, if this result holds, which is looks like it will, then a Valencia win over Atletico Madrid tomorrow evening would see Barcelona officially crowned as La Liga champions.
