Gimenez launches a long freekick into the Eibar penalty area, but Garcia - the Atletico Madrid captain for the night - is penalised for getting a grip of the opposition defender.

This isn't the most attractive game we've seen in La Liga this season, but there's an intrigue about it too. It's very rare that you see a match like this now. Is this what football used to be like?

Eibar are known for being quite a physical side, but it's Atletico Madrid who are imposing themselves on the contest. Both sides are working so hard to compensate for the state of the pitch.

Griezmann has been impressive for Atletico Madrid this evening, continuing his recent good run of form. The French attacker started slowly this season, but now he's red hot!

But if there was a team built to deal with conditions like these, it's Atletico Madrid. In fact, they look like they're enjoying themselves on this pitch. Eibar certainly are not.

It's clear to see just how much of an impact this pitch is having on the game whenever a pass is played along the ground. The touchline is a swamp! And Simeone is standing right in the middle of it.

Atletico Madrid are playing clever football here. They know that they won't be able to play a short, passing game, so they are opting for a more direct and long-ball approach. And it's working.

YELLOW CARD: Federico Piovaccari (Eibar)

GOOOOOOOOAL! Eibar 0 Atletico Madrid 2 (22 mins - Mario Mandzukic). And there's a second for the Liga champions! Griezmann plays the ball into Mandzukic, who finishes on the volley at the far post.

That was an opportunity for the home side. A freekick delivery falls to the edge of he box, following a header by Saul, but Borja's strike is wayward and never really threatens Atletico.

Despite his performance in the Copa Del Rey defeat to Barcelona during the week, Torres has been dropped for this game by Simeone, with Mandzukic coming in as the lone striker.
