Jese tries to drive down the line, knocking the ball past his marker and sprinting on to it, but Mario does really well, making the challenge and turning over the ball. Jese has found it difficult tonight.

Real Madrid's corner kicks have been poor so far tonight. This time Di Maria plants one straight into the gloves of Asenjo. Missed opportunity for Ancelotti's men.

The home side have lined up in attack as they ended the first half. Bale is on the right, Benzema is up front and Jese is on the left. He'll be hoping to see more of the ball in the second half.

Real Madrid have to be careful here. Villarreal are a very good side and are in the search for a Champions League place this season. That goal at the end of the first half has changed the complexion of this tie.

Well you don't see that very often. Ancelotti has been forced to substitute the subsitute, with Coentrao coming off for Arbeloa. You would have to assume that just like Marcelo did Coentrao picked up an injury.

Well that goal from Villarreal changes things a little bit. The Yellow Submarine have something to build on in the second half, even though Real Madrid have been the better team by some distance. Bale has been outstanding and looks to be really enjoying himself after a few weeks out.

And now Di Maria has a long range effort, taking a half volley from about 25 yards. But this one is a bit more manageable for Asenjo, who gets underneath the ball to palm over his own bar.

What a sensational strike that was! If Mario has that sort of weapon on him you have to wonder why he doesn't come forward like that more often. Blockbuster goal!

GOAL! Real Madrid 2 Villarreal 1 (42 mins - Mario Gaspar). Wow! Mario comes on to the ball just inside the box and smashes a right footed drive high into the top corner. Lopez stood no chance!

Can Villarreal find a way back into this game before the break? A goal would give them a huge boost going into half time and would give them something to build on for the second half. Easier said than done though.

The away team are quite good at getting into promising positions in and around the penalty area but when the time comes for them to choose a pass in the final third they clam up. Another opportunity passes for Villarreal.

Villarreal need to find a way to double up on Bale. Every time he gets the ball on the right side you feel he's going to go past Costa as if he was never there in the first place. It's just too easy at the moment.

You get the feeling that Bale is fast becoming a fans' favourite with the Bernabeu crowd. They love all his flicks and tricks and his goals tend to be quite spectacular.

One player who has struggled somewhat to get into the game is Jese. The 20 year old has been in great form for Real Madrid recently but he's been quiet. That's not to say he's played poorly, just hasn't seen a lot of the ball.
