Real Madrid come forward on the break but the move breaks down when Isco misplaces his pass to Jese, who had broken forward from deep to support his teammate. That should have resulted in something.
    51'
Cordoba gets the ball at his feet for the first time but he completely fudges his first touch and the ball dribbles out of play. Not the best way to make your introduction on such a big stage.

Casilla put in a great performance in the first leg to prevent Ronaldo from finding the net and he's repeating the trick again this week. Playing very well at the home of his former club.

What a save by Casilla! Isco touches the ball through to Ronaldo who shoots at goal from a matter of yards but the Espanyol keeper puts it over the bar with his legs. That save was so good Ronaldo is laughing!

With that change Aguirre has switched to a ore convetional 4-4-2 with Cordoba and Garcia up front. It worked so well against Valencia at the weekend so who knows? Maybe it'll work in this second half.

What did you make of the first half? Is Isco short of match fitness? What does Ronaldo need to do to get involved with the game? Tweet me (@grahamruthven)!

Despite something of a fightback at the end of the first half Real Madrid are in control of this game as we head into the break. Jese has been impressive for the home side as Espanyol have largely struggled to get Garcia involved in the game.

HALF TIME: Real Madrid 1-0 Espanyol (2-0 on aggregate)

Isco has struggled to impose himself on the game so far. As I said earlier he looks to be lacking a bit of match fitness. Will Ancelotti pull him off at half time? I wouldn't be surprised if he does.

Torje's corner kick reaches Pizzi at the back post, who takes a good touch and shots at goal but it's too straight and read by Nacho who gets infront of the effort to block.
    42'
Real Madrid have let their grip of the game go a little bit as this first half comes to a close. Can the away side find an equaliser before the break? They're certainly looking more dangerous now.

Capdevila is afforded an excellent chance in front of goal, latching on to a deep freekick delivery into the box but he fails to make a connection, although the flag is raised anyway. It wouldn't have counted.

Garcia is upset that Alonso didn't see yellow for a pretty cynical tackle on the Espanyol player. He may have a point to be fair but his frustration is starting to show.
    37'
Jese tries to slot through Ronaldo when he maybe had better options on his left side, but Casilla and Ronaldo collide as they both challenge for the ball. Completely accidental but looked sore nonetheless.

As the first half starts to wind down Espanyol are looking more assured in the opposition half, with Garcia coming deep to collect the ball from his midfield. Can he create an opportunity before the break?
