De Marcos tries to work his way into the box when he had Laporte square for the pass. In the end he's tackled in the box and his half hearted claims for a spot kick are waved away.

Will Bilbao change their approach for this second half? Will they chase that away goal or are they content with a 1-0 defeat to take back to the San Mames?

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Susaeta has on the game. He's first choice for Athletic Bilbao and can be a handul. Let's see if he can have an effect in this second half.

Rodriguez tries to beat about three opposition players but he tries too much and eventually gets the ball taken from him. He's trying a bit too hard to impress.

Costa hasn't scored in 2014 yet and tries to round Herrerin, but the keeper does well to forced him wide, too wide for a shot. It was a good flick on by Adrian to set up Costa.

Two changes at the break, one for each team. I think Simeone wants his team to take control in the middle of the pitch. They didn't see as much of the possession as they should have in the first half.

Godin has given Atletico Madrid the lead at the break, which I said is something they do so often. They always seem to find a goal just before half time. Athletic have had a few good chances of their own but they need to make the ball stick better in attack. Looking forward to the second half.

Atletico Madrid have done that so often this season. They have a tendency to score just before the break and they've done it yet again here.

That was a strange decision by the referee. Laporte executes a perfect slide tackle to dispossess Costa in the box but he shows the Atletico striker the yellow card. It certainly wasn't a dive. It was a clean challenge and Costa wasn't even looking for the decision. Weird.

GOAL! Atletico Madrid 1 (41 mins - Diego Godin) Athletic Bilbao 0. The defender heads in from Koke's fantastic cross into the box! The header was good but that goal was all about the cross.

Big chance for Atletico Madrid! Koke plays a wonderful incisive pass for Adrian, who is through one-on-one but Herrerin comes off his line well to smother the shot. Very good opportunity.

It's not quite a full stadium for this game but even still it still sounds like a fairly vociferous atmosphere inside the Vicente Calderon tonight.

The good news for Athletic Bilbao fans is that Sola appears to be moving freely after that injury scare earlier in the half.
