So Atletico Madrid will take a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg at the San Mames. Godin's first half goal was enough to separate the two teams, although Athletic Bilbao also had their chances. Herrera will rue that missed opportunity in the opening 20 minutes. That could have made things very interesting.

Great chance for Alderweireld! The former Ajax defender is up from the back and ends up latching on to Koke's in swinging cross into the box but he can't quite direct it towards goal. Big chance for a second.

Three minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the second half.

Turan looks to have found Costa with a deep, floated cross into the box but right at the crucial moment the striker slips and the ball drifts over his head with Costa on the ground in the six yard box.

I get the feeling that both teams are quite happy to take this scoreline into the second leg. But for the timebeing Atletico Madrid are on the attack.

The keeper gets lucky! Juanfran's cross into the box from the right side looks easy enough to claim but Herrerin almost fumbles it at the feet of Turan, who was lurking behind him.

A long ball from the back is left by Alderweireld, who almost gets caught out as De Marcos chases it down but Courtois does well to come off his line nice and alert and take the ball.

Godin comes with a few inches of added his and Atletico Madrid's second but he can't quite make a connection from Garcia's cross into the box. Godin had surged forward in Gerard Pique fashion!

And now Atletico Madrid come forward but Garcia drags his shot on goal wide of the target when he gets some space on the edge of the opposition box.

Mikel Rico has Courtois a little worried with a shot from long range, with a slight deflection giving the ball an edge of spin, but it flashes wide of the target, much to the relief of the Belgian keeper.

Can Athletic Bilbao find an equaliser before full time? The thing is, they might be quite happy taking the score back to the San Mames for the second leg. But of course 1-1 would be an even better scoreline!

Garcia tries to find the bottom corner with a flicked header towards goal from Koke's exceptional and inch perfect cross into the box from the right wing, but Herrerin is equal to it and saves.

Well that was a bit wild by Herrera. Susaeta's freekick into the box is headed clear by Laporte but when it falls to the edge of the box the Athletic Bilbao midfielder smashes a wild volley well over the bar!
