DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY
Palace still aren’t sure over their European campaign, or the futures of some of their best players, but TNT Sports pundit Ally McCoist sees plenty of reasons to be positive.
"The Palace fans have every reason to be positive. Glasner is clearly an excellent coach. There’s a lot of good things in the squad at Palace. If you ask the vast majority of fans if they were happy I think they’d say yes."

GLASNER ON PALACE’S EUROPEAN WAIT
Palace are due to find out tomorrow if they have successfully appealed the decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League.
Here’s Oliver Glasner, speaking to TNT Sports: "Let’s focus on the things we can influence, we can’t control UEFA’s decision or CAS’ decision.
"Tomorrow we will have the TV screens on — we hope to be in the Europa League but if not it will be the Conference League and we will have to play those games in August."

MACCA ON WIRTZ
TNT Sports pundit Steve McManaman has been speaking about Liverpool's new boy Florian Wirtz.
"He’s lucky enough to wear the number seven. Everyone’s wondering where he’ll play — he’s good enough to play any position.
"He can play off the left, in the number nine role, dropping off. He’s good enough to operate anywhere. He should be able to play three or four positions, you can’t just play a number eight or number 10 position. This kid’s good enough, he’s only young and hopefully he’ll get better and better in a Liverpool shirt."

GLASNER SPEAKS
Crystal Palace’s boss has been speaking to TNT Sports: "Still really delighted. The fans had tears in their eyes — this is the emotional reward. I think we deserved it last year, and now we have to deserve it again [today].
"It’s such a great group, such a great character. They’re working so hard, they’re togetherness. It helps that the 15, 16, 17 players are still here and they know each other so well.
"Fortunately the ones who played most minutes [last season] are still here, but we have to add a few players. We could have 55, maybe 60 games because we want to be in competitions until the end. So we need to have numbers.
"You can’t play a better game than this atmosphere, against the champions Liverpool, here at Wembley. We are the lucky ones, we will enjoy it. It’s a reward for last season but it’s not a friendly, we are playing for silverware and we want to lift it."

HOW PALACE LINE UP
It looks like it’ll be a 343 shape for Palace, who have played that way regularly under Glasner.
Goalkeeper Dean Henderson was one of their heroes in the FA Cup final, and he will be hoping for another big performance today.
Eberechi Eze got the goal to beat City three months ago, though he has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, with both Tottenham and Arsenal said to be keen on signing the England international. He starts on the left of Palace’s attack. There are no new additions in Palace’s starting XI, though.

LIVERPOOL’S STARTING XI
As mentioned, four new faces in Liverpool’s team — Ekitike leads the line, with Darwin Nunez having now been sold to Al-Hilal. Playmaker Wirtz, who has taken the number seven shirt vacated following Luis Diaz’s departure to Bayern Munich, seems set to play off the Frenchman in a 4231 system, with Frimpong and Kerkez forming a new full-back partnership.
The star man for the Reds, though, is still Mohamed Salah, fresh from his remarkable 2024-25 campaign in which he played a part in a record-equalling 47 Premier League goals (29 goals, 18 assists).

A CHANCE TO GET GOING
Liverpool steamrolled their way to the league title last season, as Arne Slot made the ideal start to life at Anfield after replacing club great Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds have been busy in the transfer market, spending big to bolster their squad as they aim to build on last term — Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez have all arrived for big money, and all four of those players start at Wembley.
Liverpool did, of course, lose Diogo Jota in tragic circumstances, with the forward — along with his brother Andre Silva — passing away in a car crash at the start of July, and that has added a huge amount of emotion to their pre-season preparations.
Palace, meanwhile, head into this season’s curtain raiser still unsure exactly what European competition they will be competing in next season. They were demoted to the Conference League by UEFA, but have appealed that decision.
Oliver Glasner has been frustrated in his attempts to significantly strengthen his squad, though the Eagles will be out to create another special day at Wembley, where they beat Manchester City to clinch the FA Cup back in May.
