PALACE CLINCH COMMUNITY SHIELD WITH SHOOT-OUT WIN
Crystal Palace downed Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2 on penalties to win the Community Shield after a 2-2 draw at Wembley.
Justin Devenny was Palace’s match-winner as he slammed home the final penalty in a shoot-out in which Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott all fluffed their lines for Liverpool.
The Reds twice went ahead in normal time on Sunday, with new signings Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong on target inside the opening 21 minutes - either side of Jean-Philippe Mateta converting from the penalty spot after Virgil van Dijk's foul on Ismaila Sarr.
Yet a resurgent Palace deservedly equalised through Sarr in the 77th minute, with Liverpool fortunate not to concede a penalty when Mac Allister handled in the box.
Oliver Glasner’s team, though, kept up their momentum in the shoot-out. Dean Henderson made two big saves, setting the stage for Devenny, on as a late substitute for the injured Marc Guehi, to fire home the winning spot-kick and send the Eagles fans into raptures.

DEAN HENDERSON SPEAKS TO TNT SPORTS
"Incredible, honestly, these emotions are fantastic. They were 2-1 up, you’d think we were out of the game. The lads stuck at it, the manager said we’d get our chances and we stuck at it and we deserved that in the end.
"I love the big moments, I love being in the pressure moments. The homework we did on the penalties was great — thanks to everyone behind the scenes who helped with that. It’s brilliant.
"We turned up today, Liverpool are the favourites, they’ve got unbelievable players and they’re a great team. We had to work so hard, two trophies in three months is incredible — let’s write the next bit of history. Hopefully, we can take that momentum into the season."

SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT
Here's former Palace stalwart Joel Ward on TNT Sports.
"There’s enough noise going around the club at the moment — today just gives everyone something to focus on, something to smile about. What a moment, Justin [Devenny] is getting all of the plaudits he deserves. Absolutely incredible."

FULL-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 2-2 LIVERPOOL (3-2 ON PENS)
What a day for Crystal Palace, as they beat Liverpool on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Wembley.
It is another trophy for Oliver Glasner, as The Eagles can now soar into the new campaign with the Community Shield to their name.
Liverpool twice went ahead, with Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong scoring on their competitive debuts, yet Palace twice came from behind, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr on target. Justin Devenny was then their hero in the shoot-out, with Dean Henderson pulling off a couple of saves, too.

DEVENNY SCORES
Palace have won the Community Shield! Liverpool are beaten 3-2 on penalties at Wembley, and Devenny – who only came on as a late sub - is the Eagles' hero with a fantastic finish that arrowed beyond Alisson.
What a day for Crystal Palace!
17:16
SZOBOSZLAI FINISHES
That's a great spot-kick from the Hungarian. It's now 2-2 in the shoot-out, but Palace will have another chance to win it...
17:15
SOSA... MISSES!
The new Palace signing hits the bar, and Liverpool survive!
17:14
HENDERSON THE HERO AGAIN
Another stop from Henderson!
Elliott's penalty is really weak, and it's a simple enough stop for Henderson. Now, Palace have the chance to win it with this next kick...
17:13
SARR SCORES
That's cool and composed from Sarr, who makes it 2-1 Palace with a lovely, curled finish into the right-hand corner.
17:13
GAKPO NETS
It's 1-1 in the shoot-out as Gakpo slams home, giving Henderson no chance.
17:12
EZE CAN'T SCORE
That's a really poor attempt from Eze, who stuttered and staggered in his run-up, and Alisson tips it onto the post.
Alisson looked like he was off his line, but there will be no re-take, with the VAR having confirmed the onfield decision that the goalkeeper had not enroached.
17:11
HENDERSON SAVES
What a stop from Henderson! Just like he did at Wembley against Man City back in May, the Palace goalkeeper saves from the spot, as he lunges to the left to palm away Mac Allister's effort. Another missed penalty for the Reds!
17:10
MATETA SCORES
No mistake from Mateta as, just like in the first half, he puts his spot-kick away. Palace lead the shoot-out 1-0.
17:09
SALAH MISSES
Oh my word! It has not been a good day at the office for Salah, and he has just sliced his spot-kick way over the crossbar.
17:08
PENALTIES AT THE LIVERPOOL END
And it's Salah who will get the shoot-out under way.
17:07
PALACE THE BETTER TEAM
That second half belonged to Palace, and the Eagles can consider themselves unfortunate not to have been awarded a spot-kick for that handball by Mac Allister.
Now, Liverpool will get the chance to prove their credentials as the country's best team by shaking off that poor second-half display and winning the Community Shield in the shoot-out, but Palace know an upset is within their grasp.

We're going to penalties at Wembley!

CLOSE TO GLORY
Devenny, just on as a sub, very nearly wins it for Palace with his first touch, sending a side-footed finish just wide from 18 yards out. That was close!
