Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich team-mates have let him down this season, with the club now destined to miss out on silverware. Bayern's 11-year Bundesliga reign was ended by Bayer Leverkusen and they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in a dramatic semi-final against Real Madrid. Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham last summer and has scored 44 goals this term.

Kane has been let down by Bayern Munich team-mates - Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Kane has been “let down” by his Bayern Munich team-mates after the German side’s late loss to Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final meant they will finish the season without a trophy.
The English striker cited a desire to lift silverware as the main reason he left Tottenham last summer, but his wait will go on after a campaign which was blighted by inconsistency for Bayern.
They lost in the early rounds of the German Cup and their 11-year Bundesliga reign was brought to an end by an inspired Bayer Leverkusen before Madrid landed the final blow.
Bayern looked on course to set up an all-German Champions League final when Alphonso Davies broke the deadlock at the Bernabeu in the 68th minute but a late Joselu brace saw the Spanish giants snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and stun their opponents.
Kane, who has scored 44 goals in all competitions for Bayern this season, could only look on from the bench after he was substituted off in the 85th minute and Ferdinand praised him for his “ridiculous” return.
“He’s done his job, he’s scored the goals, he’s done what he’s paid to do,” Ferdinand said. “They bought him for a particular reason [and] that’s to score goals but also to continue winning trophies.
“And I have to say I think the others have let him down more than anything because he’s produced what he’s had to produce, he’s the man who comes in and scores goals and creates chances for others and he’s done that.

“Forty-plus goals this season is a ridiculous amount, the most he’s ever scored in his career. I don’t think the finger gets pointed at him, but I think he’ll have a heavy heart tonight like the others.
“But him more so maybe than anyone else because he’s come here and for the first time in 11 years they haven’t won the league.”
Owen Hargreaves, Ferdinand’s fellow TNT Sports pundit, was critical of departing Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel for removing Kane before the final whistle.
It left them without one of the deadliest strikers in the world as they chased the game in injury time before their fate was sealed.
“I tell you what was unexpected – Harry Kane going off the pitch,” former Bayern Munich midfielder Hargreaves told TNT Sports after the game.
“That’s one of the biggest subs I’ve ever seen in a game of football of that magnitude.
“To take off a guy who has scored 44 goals, who is the most durable player pretty much anywhere, and you bring on another striker in Choupo-Moting.
“Maybe he wanted height for corners, I don’t know. You cannot take him off.”
