He runs at Gimenez, but right when he should go on the outside, getting into the box, he drifts infield and can't find Elanga with his pass. Good start to the half from United though.

We saw a few angles on the goal, and it featured all manager of miserable defending - not just from the defenders but the midfielders too, and from Elanga who didn't track back.

A ball over the top from Fred and a lovely backflick from Bruno plays Elanga into the box down its right! He drives, shoots, and Oblak tips away - though I think it was going wide. The ref gives a goalkick.

Can Manchester United score? They don't always score.

That was a pretty enjoyable half. United had the better of it and should've taken the lead through Elanga. But otherwise they didn't create many chances, while their dreadful defending cost them yet again

Has a look, and swipes his foot across one that had Oblak, already moving left, scrambling right to shovel behind for a corner that comes to nowt.

there's been a goal and I think three players have had treatment. Nonsense.

But it looked more likely that previously. And as I type that, we see that in the build-up to the goal, Koke fouled Fred, but the challenge on Elgna was fine.

If United can avoid conceding, they won't mind that, because it gives them space into which they can attack.

But every time he gets on the ball, there are two or three men around him. It might be worth him taking a turn on the right, because Atleti have less good defenders on their left.

They're the better team here, but Atleti have players and United have defenders to hurt them any time.

A lovely little one-two in midfield between Koke and Herrera allows the former to thread a pass in behind Telles for the onrushing Llorente! He slides across for Felix, who finishes easily ... but Lorente went too early! In fairness, it was a decent line from United.

Of course it does. Telles aims it at Maguire, who gets pretty close, but Gimenez makes a terrific intervention. He stays down - I think there was a clash of heads - but he'll be fine.

He wins the ball and feeds Bruno who feeds Sancho; he effortlessly apparates around one man, but Llorente nicks it away. United maintain pressure and force a corner...

He finds Ronaldo, who with quick feet of his own moves away from Savic ... who crunches him.
