City cut the home side open again. Mahrez volleys a lovely ball into the run of KDB who sees his attempted cross from the right of the box deflect into the grateful arms of Pyatov.

DID YOU KNOW? Shakhtar are unbeaten in seven home meetings with English opposition in European competition. The Ukrainian side have won five of those encounters. Their most recent success was that 2-1 win over City last term.

This is very bright from the Citizens. Once again they push the hosts right back. Mendy sets his sights from range but his effort is way off target.

Plenty of early ball for the visitors. Mendy surges free down the left and drills a cross in that Silva acrobatically fires towards goal. Andriy Pyatov tips it over, but the whistle goes for offside.

HEAD-TO-HEAD: The teams met twice in last season's Champions League group stage. Shakhtar won 2-1 on home turf while City triumphed 2-0 at the Etihad.

STAT: City have won four of their six CL away games, losing twice. The Citizens have only failed to net in one of their last 15 CL group stage matches. That was back in October 2016 when they were thumped 4-0 at Barcelona.

Guardiola: "We are going to put in all effort to win this competition, but from what I saw last season we are not ready, that's what I feel. That doesn't mean we are not going to try."

Prior to this run he had only notched once in his 12 previous appearances in the competition. He is also the top scorer in the Ukrainian top-flight having fired 10 in 12 games.

AS IT STANDS: City are second in the pool after recovering from their home defeat to Lyon first time out with a win at Hoffenheim. The French side are top on four points, one point clear of the Citizens. Shakhtar are third on two points after drawing their first two matches, both by a 2-2 scoreline.

So, the big news for City is that Kevin De Bruyne makes his first start of the season following injury. Pep Guardiola has shuffled his pack as Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Leroy Sane drop to the bench. Gabriel Jesus will lead the line with support from Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.
