Ramires and Terry go down injured right after that flurry of chances and the home support are not happy – they think this is time wasting. Boos all around.

Aogo finds Meyer at the back post and he lays the ball off to Draxler but his half-volley is blocked by Azpilicueta.

Neustädter rises above Terry to power a header on goal but Cech tips it over. The resultant corner ends in an almighty scramble around the six-yard box that is eventually cleared.

Cech flaps at a Aogo cross that lands at the feet of Meyer but his effort is blocked. Boateng picks up the loose ball and stings the palms of Cech from 25 yards. Corner.

Almost genius. Hazard picks the ball up in midfield and runs at pace before exchanging passes with Torres but he just loses his footing as he entered the penalty box.

Bar the odd break at pace here or there, this has been a rather turgid first half.

Draxler receives the ball and turns in one before slipping the ball through for Boateng but he is offside.

Lampard wins a tackle, and finds Torres who lays-off to Oscar but the home side crowd him out.

Boateng looks to rise early to meet a Höwedes cross but he catches Ivanovic and that’s a free-kick.

Torres is slow coming back from an offside position.

Jones has put in a shift too in the middle of the pitch – he is getting closer to Oscar now.

The hosts have reacted well to going a goal down early on but Chelsea look a threat on the break – obvious to say it but the next goal could decide this.

And Uchida gets in behind both Azpilicueta and Schurrle but the German manages to get back to get a challenge in that forces the full-back to take the shot on on the stretch and he fires wildly over.

Schalke seem to be targeting Azpilicueta on Chelsea’s left – every time they get the ball they look to get out there as quickly as possible.

Cahill rises to head the corner clear.

A poor ball out of defence from Cahill results in Chelsea eventually conceding a corner as Cahill slides in to clear a Aogo centre.
