Lots of possession for Wolfsburg not much penetration yet.

Veirinha looks more than up for filling the shoes of De Bruyne on that right hand side. He's looked a threat so far. The ball finds its way to Luis Gustavo in the middle and he tries from distance but his swerving effort is saved well by Fahrmann who holds on at the second attempt.

Veirinha spins away from Sane on the right and whips a cross in from deep but the ball just goes over Dost's head in the middle.

Good battle in the middle with Guilavogui and Neustadter going in for a big 50-50. Wolfsburg on the ball again though at the back with Trasch.

Both teams just feeling each other out here. First time Schalke have got their foot on the ball and they're trying to play out from the back but good high pressure sees Fahrmann have to go long.

Veirinha wins the corner for Wolfsburg off Kolasinac on the right side. The ball is swung in but headed clear.

Good choice mate.

Five minutes to go until kick off. Wolfsburg will hope they can improve upon their performance during a 1-1 draw against Cologne in the opening round of fixtures. Schalke also drew 1-1 when they should have won against newly promoted Darmstadt and will hope to improve on that performance as well.

Aside from that, Schalke will be weakened without captain Benedikt Howedes available while the loss of Matija Nastasic and Atsuto Uchida through injury will come as a blow to the back four. Kevin Prince Boateng also misses out as he is thought to be on the verge of a move away from the club. For Wolfsburg, goalkeeper Diego Benaglio is their only major absentee through injury.

Well there is interesting team news with both these sides if we're perfectly honest. Two of Wolfsburg's talismen last season, Kevin De Bruyne and Ivan Perisic, have been left out of the squad due to imminent transfers away from the club. While for Schalke, Julian Draxler is said to be in talks with Juventus but DOES start tonight.
