It really is bizarre that Senegal have never won this thing. Kenta have never made it through the group stages.

Senegal could really use a performance tonight. They're potential winners, and the best team at the end of a competition are rarely the best team in the group stages. But after tonight, there's little margin for error, nor time to locate groove.

Similarly, it looks like both sides will play 4-2-3-1.

In general, if you want to know how a team will line up, consult the Fifa or Uefa website ... but not Caf's, whose formations and personnel are not entirely accurate. I don't - for example - think that Cheikhou Kouyate is playing at right-back.

Talking of Cote d'Ivoire, I still fancy them to win this thing - if they can work out their best team. They rested Seri and Pepe this afternoon, which allowed Wilfried Zaha a turn, but I've no idea how he's being kept out by max Gradel otherwise.

Earlier today: thanks to late goal from their captain, Boussoufa, Morocco made it three wins from three, beating South Africa 1-0 in a mathc notable for Hakim Ziyech's strop on being substituted, while Cote d'Ivoire handled Namibia 4-1. Both winners progress, Morocco to face a third-place finisher and Cote d'Ivoire to face the winners of Group E - most likely, Mali. That would be a jazzer.

Senegal, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Algeria last time out. They bring in Ciss, Gueye, Sarr and Saivet for Wague, N'Diayem, Balde and Diatta.

Ch ch ch changes: at right-back, Kenya replace Owino with Otieno, while further forward, Kahata and Olunga drop out with Omino and Olunga coming in.

Looking through the teams, this oughtn't to be close. Senegal have perhaps the best player in the competition, Sadio Mane, along with Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye and Ismaila Sarr. They'll play a 4-2-3-1, while Kenya, captained by Victor Wanyama, are playing 4-3-3.

Right, let's have some teams...

The second-placed team will meet Uganda next; if the third-placed team have done enough, they'll meet Egypt. So there's plenty of incentive to win this one.

The eagle-eyed geeks among you may have noticed that the group system here is the same as employed at Mexico '86, which means that after the top two finishers in each pool have progressed, four of six third-placed teams are required to complete the round of 16. Or, put another way, yes: it's a lot of games to get rid of not a lot of countries. Anyway, four points will be enough for that third place, so if this match is a draw, Senegal will take second and Kenya will also be through. If there's a positive result, those on the right side of it will move on and those on the wrong side of it will have to wait.
