HAYTER THE NEW CLUBHOUSE LEADER
And that clubhouse is the Leaning Tower of Pisa… Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step) goes 40 seconds quicker than Michael Hepburn to set the new benchmark of 32:40 at the finish.
13:20
HOOLE FASTEST AT THE FIRST CHECK
Dan Hoole, the Dutch TT champion from Lidl-Trek, storms into the lead at the first check, shaving six seconds off Hayter’s target time.
13:15
AFFINI PUSHING HAYTER AT FIRST CHECK
The European TT champion goes through the first check at Pontetetto just one second down on Hayter, and the second check at Asciano at two seconds – so we have a race on our hands out there.
13:08
HEPBURN POWERS INTO THE LEAD
The Australian Michael Hepburn (Jayco-AlUla) comes home in a time of 33:20, which is a massive 2:24 faster than his compatriot Jensen Plowright (Alpecin-Deceunicnk). A bit later on, France’s Clement Davy (Groupama-FDJ) crosses the line 1:01 down to move into second place. But let’s now wait for Hayter, who was 23 seconds clear of Hepburn in Asciano after the climb.

HERE’S THAT CRASH FROM PRIMOZ ROGLIC
Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe DS Patxi Vila has downplayed Primoz Roglic’s crash in training this morning, claiming: "It was nothing really – just a right turn at the end at slow speed. There was a bit of oil and the road was pretty slippery. He lost his front wheel but he doesn’t have a single scratch – it’s all good."
Here’s a video of the crash so you can be a judge of it yourself…

PLOWRIGHT FIRST TO FINISH IN PISA
The Australian crosses the line in the Piazza del Duomo to post the target time of 35:44. The likes of Hepburn and Hayter will soon smash that, but it’s a good job from the Australian, who caught his minute-man Alexander Krieger during his TT.
12:56
NEW FASTEST TIME AT THE FIRST CHECK FROM HAYTER
And the former British champion soars into the lead at Pontetetto. Hayter powers through in 10:12, which is +12 quicker than Hepburn. Hepburn, incidentally, has completed the climb and descent. He goes through the second check at Asciano at 20.5km in a time of 24:04, which is +1:41 faster than Gijs Van Hoecke (Intermarche-Wanty).
12:48
HAYTER DOWN THE RAMP, HEPBURN CURRENTLY LEADING
Ethan Hayter has had quite a quiet Giro debut for Soudal Quick-Step but he could be a factor today. The Briton has just got going. The fastest rider at the first intermediate check at Pontetetto at 8.3km is Australia’s Michael Hepburn (Jayco-AlUla). He came through in a time of 10:24, which is +14 quicker than Clement Davy of Groupama-FDJ.
12:45
PLOWRIGHT ON COURSE TO FINISH FIRST
Alexander Krieger may have been first down the ramp but he’s already been overtaken by his minute-man Jensen Plowright (Alpecin-Deceuninck). So the Australian will probably be the first rider into Pisa shortly before 1pm UK time.
HAVE YOUR SAY - WILL TARLING DOUBLE UP IN PISA?

CAN JOSH TARLING DOUBLE UP?
Britain’s Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers) won the Stage 2 TT in Tirana the weekend before last. The 21-year-old towering Welshman beat Primoz Roglic by one slender second and he’ll be one of the big favourites for glory today. Here’s what Tarling had to say this morning…

AROUND 15 RIDERS ON THE COURSE NOW
The riders are leaving at one-minute intervals with the likes of Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike), Matteo Moschetti (Israel-Premier Tech) and Taco van der Hoorn (Intermarche-Wanty) all on course.

ROADS STILL A BIT DAMP
And the sun isn’t out out – just bursting through the clouds every now and then. The flagstones in Luca and Pisa are largely dry at the start, but there are some damp patches – especially up on the raised road going around the city walls. If you ever get to visit Lucca, the raised road on the city walls are a must – you can jog or stroll around them to get the best views of the city. There’s a no-car policy inside the city walls, so the best way around is by foot or by hiring a bike from one of the many bike shops just outside the walls. It’s a fantastic city for a long-weekend break – I’d certainly recommend it over nearby Pisa.

ROUTE CIRCLES LUCCA BEFORE HEADING TO PISA
It’s a really fantastic route, this. The start ramp is in Piazza Napoleone in the heart of Lucca before the riders do a clockwise loop on top of the famous Medieval walls of this gem of a city. They then make their way south, across a hill, and then through Asciano before heading into Pisa, where the finish comes in the shadow of the Leaning Tower in the Piazza del Duomo.

STAGE 10 ITT UNDER WAY: FIRST RIDER ROLLS DOWN THE RAMP
Germany's Alexander Krieger (Tudor Pro Cycling) gets today's time trial going - the first of the remaining 171 riders to start what promises to be a breaktakingly beautiful race against the clock in picture-postcard Tuscany.
12:20
THE SUN IS OUT AFTER SOME EARLY SHOWERS
When Primoz Roglic hit the deck during his earlier recon it looked very much like the flagstones were damp. But the sun is out now and those stones have dried out. Stay tuned for our first rider.

WHAT'S ON THE MENU FOR STAGE 10?
Here's the profile for today's individual time trial, with just the one uphill test punctuating an otherwise pan-flat ride from the fortress city of Lucca to Pisa, home of the iconic Leaning Tower...

DEL TORO TOWERING ABOVE HIS RIVALS AHEAD OF PISA SHOWDOWN
The Mexican has over a minute to play with over his team-mate Ayuso at the top of the standings. You’d think that the Spaniard remains the favourite for glory in Rome – and UAE’s leader – but with only one summit finish remaining in this race, Del Toro could well be dreaming of the impossible. For now, he’s just enjoying being a tourist ahead of his race of truth in pink.
12:09
WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS FOR ROGLIC
If the 2023 champion saw today as an opportunity to draw a line under his troubles on Sunday then he had another thing coming… In a typically Primoz Roglic piece of news, we’re heading that the Slovenian crashed this morning during his recon of the TT route. Luckily it wasn’t the same side that he bashed on Sunday, but it’s still hardly ideal preparation for today’s race of truth.

HERE’S HOW DEL TORO TOOK PINK AFTER VAN AERT WIN
What a day we witnessed on the Tuscan sterrato, with crashes, breakaways, mechanicals, big attacks and some seriously gutsy rides through the dust. Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) finally picked up his first win of the season – first in eight months – while crashes put a damper on the hopes of Primoz Roglic, Juan Ayuso and Tom Pidcock. Isaac del Toro rode a blinder, taking second place and the pink jersey for UAE to become the first Mexican to lead La Corsa Rosa.
