HOOLE WINS STAGE 10 TT BEFORE ROGLIC MAKES GAINS ON RIVALS
Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe) bounced back into contention for the pink jersey after putting in the best performance of the GC riders in Tuesday’s sodden Stage 10 – a 28.6km individual time trial between Lucca and Pisa.
Roglic rose five places to fifth on GC while slashing his deficit to race leader Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) to 1:18. Mexico’s Del Toro battled in tough conditions to stay on the top of the pack with a reduced lead of 25 seconds on Spanish team-mate Juan Ayuso.
Victory on the day went to the towering Dutchman Daan Hoole, who sprung a surprise in Tuscany to deliver his Lidl-Trek team their fourth win of the Giro. Hoole held off British duo Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers) and Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step) on dry roads before the heavens opened for the race favourites.
Roglic braved the conditions to take 17th place, 1:15 down on Hoole but enough to see him jump above the likes of Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), who all struggled on the slippery roads.
Bernal, who crashed on the wet roads, dropped out of the top 10 at the expense of Ineos team-mate Thymen Arensman – now tenth at 2:27 – while Italy’s Ciccone and Ecuador’s Carapaz dropped to eighth and ninth.
A solid day for Britain’s Simon Yates saw the Visma-Lease a Bike rider rise to fourth place at 1:03, just two seconds behind Italy’s Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) on the virtual podium.
But the day belonged to 26-year-old Hoole, who benefited from dry roads, a super-solid second half and some serious risk-taking to post his first ever Grand Tour stage win.

DAAN HOOLE: ‘I STILL BEAT TARLING IN THE SAME CONDITIONS’
"It’s unbelievable. It hasn’t sunk in yet. I cannot believe it. I’m so happy. I’m full of emotions. I want to thank so many people. It’s crazy. I was aiming for this day. I was feeling good all week, but to win – I never thought I would do this. I’m so happy.
"Of course, the GC guys had rain and that changed a lot. But I’m so happy I could beat [Josh] Tarling in more or less the same conditions. It’s an insane feeling – I don’t know what to say. Tarling is one of the best TT riders in the world. He started superfast and when I saw his time I was thinking it would be hard to beat him.
"But I did a good part in the second part and took some time back on him, and maybe he exploded a little bit. Victory in the Giro is so special – I want to thank the team, my coach, my parents, my brother, everyone!"

DAAN HOOLE WINS STAGE 10 IN PISA
A first Grand Tour stage win for the Dutch time trial champion Daan Hoole, who is confirmed as today’s Stage 10 winner in Pisa. The Lidl-Trek rider benefited from dry roads – but he still had to beat the big favourite Josh Tarling, so he is a worthy winner. And it’s a fourth win for the Dutchman’s Lidl-Trek team.

ISAAC DEL TORO KEEPS PINK JERSEY
But his advantage over team-mate Juan Ayuso will be slashed in the rain. The Mexican crosses the line in Pisa 2:22 down, which is 36th place but enough to keep the pink jersey.

AYUSO SLIGHTLY FADES FOR THE FINALE
It’s 22nd place for Ayuso in the heavy rain, who comes in 1:34 down on Stage 10 winner Daan Hoole. So, in the end Roglic took time back on his rival – but not a huge amount. Just one more rider to come now.

NOW AYUSO HITS THE RAIN
But first, it’s Antonio Tiberi of Bahrain Victorious, who is 1:53 down on Hoole – a decent performance given the conditions, but he still ships time to Roglic. Ayuso and Del Toro to come.

RICHARD CARAPAZ STILL IN THE GAME
It’s just 56th place for the Ecuadorian, who crosses the sodden finish line at 2:52. Just three more to go – and the last two, Ayuso and Del Toro, have yet to hit that patch of rain pelting down on Pisa.

BERNAL UPDATE
We’re hearing that Egan Bernal crashed during his time trial, which explains why he suddenly lost a lot of time in the second half. No images as yet of that incident. We await confirmation from Ineos Grenadiers.

HEAVY RAIN AGAIN AT THE FINISH
It’s a tricky finale for Giulio Ciccone on the flatstones and tiles of Pisa. The Italian comes home 2:48 down so he will lose time. But that rain will make it hard for the remaining riders – Carapaz, Tiberi, Ayuso and Del Toro.

AYUSO HAVING A STORMING RIDE
The Spaniard may be 41 seconds down on Daan Hoole at the second check, but that puts him 12 seconds up on his big GC rival Roglic – and he’ll be within reaching distance of the pink jersey tonight, depending on how Del Toro finishes up.

SOLID RACE OF TRUTH FOR YATES
Simon Yates is 1:43 down on Hoole at the finish – but that’s over a minute quicker than Bernal and his brother, Adam. So he will rise up the standings today – probably above Ciccone and Carapaz, having started in sixth. "A real, real strong ride," says Sean Kelly.

A DAY TO FORGET FOR BERNAL
It’s still raining at the finish as Egan Bernal comes home a whopping 2:58 down on Daan Hoole. The Colombian will drop down – and perhaps out of – the top 10 today.
15:56
MCNULTY WELL DOWN AT THE FINISH
The American crashed badly on Sunday and he’s clearly suffering from his wounds – plus the tricky conditions. He’s only 34th at the finish, 2:23 down.

CAGEY START FOR DEL TORO
The Mexican is 1:04 down at the first check – so he’s already lost 26 seconds to his team-mate Ayuso, who is now onto the drier roads around the climb. Ayuso, lest we forget, needed three stitches in his knee after his crash on Sunday. He’s also getting stronger – currently one second better than Roglic at the same point.

AYUSO DOWN AT FIRST CHECK
The Spaniard, who is wearing the white skinsuit as best young rider, is 38 seconds down on Tarling’s target time at Pontetetto.
Meanwhile, Simon Yates is only six seconds slower than Roglic at the second check – so he’s going very well out there.

SOLID TIME FROM ROGLIC, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED
The Slovenian is just 1:15 down in Pisa – and with the rain currently hampering his rivals, Roglic could well be taking a lot of time back on some of the other pink jersey contenders out there today.
15:46
MICHAEL STORER WELL DOWN AT FINISH
The Australian is 2:33 down on Daan Hoole at the finish. It will be interesting to compare that with the top 10 riders on GC, who will be arriving in three-minute (give or take) intervals now.

IT'S RAINING CATS AND DOGS NOW
The rain is tipping down - and this is going to make it impossible for anyone to beat Daan Hoole today. It's also going to wreak havoc on the GC.
It started in Pisa and now it's reached Lucca, with Ayuso and Del Toro having to ride their entire TT in heavy rain it seems.
