England's limited-overs captain Jos Buttler will miss the T20I series against Australia next week after suffering a setback in his recovery from a calf injury. The Lancashire cricketer has not played since England's T20 World Cup exit in June and an appearance at the one-day internationals against Australia after the T20I series is also unlikely. Phil Salt will lead the side in his stead.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of next week's T20I series against Australia following a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.
Buttler's summer of competition could be over after England described him as a "doubt" for the five-match one-day international series, also against Australia, that follows after the T20I three-match series.
The 33-year-old has not played since England failed to defend their T20 World Cup title in June, picking up the injury on holiday.
Phil Salt will lead the team in his absence, his first outing as captain.
Buttler last played in England's T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to India in late June and his subsequent injury kept him out of The Hundred.
As a result of Buttler's setback, Surrey's Jamie Overton has been added to the T20I squad and uncapped Essex batter Jordan Cox joins the ODI set-up as cover.
The T20I series gets underway in Southampton on Wednesday, September 11.
The news of Buttler's setback comes amid a time of flux in the white-ball camp, with newly-appointed head coach Brendon McCullum not officially taking up his post until the new year.
The Kiwi, already England's Test coach, agreed to take on the limited-overs role as well.
Previously assistant coach, Marcus Trescothick will be in charge as interim for the Australia series and West Indies tour later in the season.
Buttler led England to the 2022 T20 World Cup title, but his side has suffered a run of disappointing results since then, including a humiliating first-round exit from the 50-over World Cup in India last autumn.
White-ball head coach Matthew Mott resigned after the T20 semi-final defeat this summer but Buttler, who was appointed captain shortly after Mott's arrival, retained his position.

England T20 squad to face Australia

Phil Salt (captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, John Turner.
