Brendon McCullum has opted to combine his role as England’s Test coach with the limited-overs role after Matthew Mott resigned from the latter job earlier this summer. The Kiwi has already rejuvenated England’s Test team since taking charge in 2022 and has been opted as the new white ball coach in addition. "This new challenge is something I'm ready to embrace," McCullum said.

Brendon McCullum, one-half of the legendary ‘BazBall’ style of cricket now adopted by England’s men’s Test team, has agreed with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to take over the reins of the limited-overs team from next year onwards.
McCullum has been head coach of the Test team since May 2022, overseeing one of the most exciting periods of test cricket in living memory.
Combined with regular captain Ben Stokes, McCullum has encouraged a free-hitting brand of cricket that has wowed audiences worldwide.
The former New Zealand cricketer will combine his new role with his Test duties.
"This new challenge is something I'm ready to embrace, and I'm eager to work closely with [captain] Jos Buttler and the team to build on the strong foundations already in place," McCullum said.
"Rob Key's [men's director of cricket] vision for the future of English cricket is something that really resonated with me. The idea of a unified coaching structure, especially with the schedule easing next year, made perfect sense.
"I'm energised by the prospect of guiding both teams. The talent within English cricket is immense."
Key added: "I'm delighted Brendon has chosen to do both roles with England. I believe we are incredibly fortunate that a coach of his quality is prepared to commit wholeheartedly to English cricket.
“Being able to align all teams now is particularly exciting. For the last two years, constant clashes between formats have made it challenging for the white-ball environment; fortunately, these are easing starting from January.
"The timing of the schedule [from January] will allow him to dedicate the necessary focus to both roles."

While the Test team has gone from strength to strength, the limited-overs team has slid backwards after being the dominant force a few years ago.
England won the 50-over World Cup back in 2019 on home soil, but were dismally knocked out of last year’s edition and then failed to defend their T20 world title earlier this year.
That caused head coach Matthew Mott to resign, with Marcus Trescothick appointed interim coach for the rest of the year until McCallum takes over.
