While all eyes were focused on England great Adam Ramsay-Peaty in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, he had to settle for bronze while a teenager from Jersey made his own piece of history in the same race.

Filip Nowacki claimed the silver medal and in doing so, became the first athlete from Jersey in 36 years to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games.
The 18-year-old finished 0.31 seconds ahead of world record holder Ramsay-Peaty, but was pipped to the gold medal by Australian Sam Williamson.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the race, Nowacki expressed his delight and also revealed the role that Ramsay-Peaty has played in his career so far.
”That was absolutely electric. The standard here is so amazing," Nowacki said.
”Adam started up here 12 years ago, and I’ve watched him, growing up, in Rio, in Tokyo, in Paris, so it’s a real privilege to race him.
”I was always the one getting inspired, so now to be on the other side is special to me.”

Nowacki became just the fifth athlete from Jersey to win a Commonwealth Games medal.
The last medal for the island came in 1990, when Colin Mallett won gold fullbore shooting, before teaming with his father Cliff to win bronze in Auckland.
But are there more podium finishes on the cards for Nowacki?
Ramsay-Peaty’s apprentice looks set to pick up more medals in Glasgow and continue creating history at this 2026 Games.
'It gives me confidence going forwards'
The teenager has enjoyed a remarkable rise in his young career and heading into the Games this summer, he has collected big honours along the way.
Last year, Nowacki claimed the 100m and 200m breaststroke titles at the World Junior Championships, as well as winning four gold medals at the European Junior Championships.
The 18-year-old also claimed his first senior British title by winning the 200m breaststroke in April which appeared to give him the confidence needed to compete in Glasgow.

After picking up his silver medal on Saturday, Nowacki told ITV: "I'm really happy with that swim, just a touch outside my PB but it's a true privilege racing Adam, the Aussies, the very best in the world and in a senior environment.
"I'd obviously love to win but beating Adam, beating all the rest, is truly amazing and it gives me confidence going forwards.
"My training's been really good, I've trained very hard. It's definitely been a challenging year, in the sense that I'm getting older, I'm learning a lot about myself."
Nowacki will have the chance to add more medals to his collection when he competes in the 50m breaststroke on Sunday.
If the teenager can get the best of his mentor Ramsay-Peaty in that event, it will also stand him in good stead as he attempts to win gold in the 200m breaststroke.
Colin Mallett remains the only athlete from Jersey to win multiple medals at the Games. Nowacki could become the island's most decorated athlete in the competition.
Even if he fails to pick up another medal in Glasgow, Nowacki is certainly a name who will be standing on the podium at future Commonwealth Games - and potentially the Olympic Games - in years to come.
