Loeb leads, Martin excels

SOLBERG OUT - Subaru's Petter Solberg will not take to the start of the second leg of San Remo Rally after failing to make it back to final service yesterday. The Norwegian ran out of fuel two kilometres from home. "The only thing to do is keep working hard, remain positive and work for a better result on the next event," he said. STAGE 7: MARTIN PICKS UP WIN AND PENALTY
Markko Martin's hopes of catching rally leader Sebastien Loeb were rendered almost impossible when the Estonian's ECU had to be replaced, causing him to leave first service late and therefore picking up a 30-second penalty. The Estonian vented his frustration by winning the 52km stage by just 0.7 seconds ahead of Loeb, keeping him in second overall, with Gronholm 17 seconds adrift in third. Ford's Francois Duval hit a bank.

STAGE 8: MARTIN GAINS TEN SECONDS ON LOEB
Estonian Markko Martin is desperate to make up for this morning's penalty and it showed on the short 19.2km Cosio re-run by setting a time six seconds quicker than Peugeot's Gilles Panizzi. Marcus Gronholm consolidated third overall with third on the stage with Francois Duval fourth, Carlos Sainz fifth and Citroen's Philippe Bugalski sixth. Rally leader Sebastien Loeb only managed seventh this time, 9.6 seocnds down on Martin.

STAGE 9: THREE IN A ROW FOR MARTIN
Markko Martin continued his charge on the 23.3km Bartolomeo re-run but only came away with two seconds in hand after rally leader Sebastien Loeb managed the second best time. Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm remains on course for the podium thanks to yet another third best time, ahead of Gilles Panizzi and Carlos Sainz. Panizzi's time elevated him to fifth overall, demoting Francois Duval to sixth.

STAGE 10: TEGLIA 2 - 15:52 - 52.30km
Markko Martin recorded yet another stage win by setting for the fourth time in the day the fastest time at 34:48.6 in the 52.30km stage to close in the gap to 43.2 seconds from race leader Sebastien Leob. Loeb set the second fastest time with Citroen's Carlos Sainz in third. Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm stayed in contention for the podium thanks to his fourth place finish.
