How Jannik Sinner dismantled 'lost' Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon final - Nick Kyrgios and Dan Evans react to stunning result

Jannik Sinner came in for lavish praise from the TNT Sports team of Nick Kyrgios, Dan Evans and CoCo Vandeweghe after his stunning four-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. Evans explained what he thought was the tactic that "won" Sinner the match, while Kyrgios predicted it would be "one of many Wimbledon titles" for the Italian.

Dan Evans pinpointed what "won" Jannik Sinner the match after the Italian dethroned "lost" defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to claim the Wimbledon title for the first time.
Sinner recovered from dropping the opening set to win 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 on Centre Court and gain revenge for his heartbreaking five-set loss to Alcaraz in an epic French Open final five weeks earlier.
It was a composed and clinical display from the world No. 1, who left Alcaraz with no answers as the Spaniard lost a major final for the first time.
Discussing the match afterwards, the TNT Sports Wimbledon Watchalong team of Evans, Nick Kyrgios and CoCo Vandeweghe analysed how Sinner had outclassed his opponent to dethrone the two-time defending champion.
"It felt like Carlos thought he was going to get to three or four [shots] in the rally and then pull the trigger," Evans said.
"But Sinner got to one or two in the rally and then pulled the trigger before him, and then he started to feel lost in the rally. That’s essentially what I think won him the match."

Kyrgios hails 'first of many Wimbledon titles' for Sinner

Evans added: "For how Sinner volleyed and finished off up there, for a final, a big match like that, to have the grit, the determination, to will yourself to get up there when you’re not comfortable.
"To follow the coach’s orders, as well as having the disappointment in the back of your head or the nerves from the previous final, that’s too good from him."
Former Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios, who was second-best to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 final, described how Alcaraz was outfoxed by a new strategy put in place by Sinner and his team.
"The message in the body language, I think Alcaraz was a bit lost for tactics," Kyrgios said.
"He was going to his box asking, ‘what should I do?’ He lost all rhythm on his serve when he realised that Sinner was going to plant himself on the baseline and really take it to him.
"But they’ve got the best teams in the world, so Alcaraz is going to go back to the drawing board for the US Open. You can’t win multiple Grand Slams with a one-dimensional game. So he will be fine."
Former world No. 9 and two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist Vandeweghe lauded the Italian for his performance at key moments in the match.
Sinner was clinical when break opportunities came and had the composure to muster some big serves and huge shots when finding himself under pressure.
"For me, it was just the confidence and the pressure of the moments. Backhand line, serving big in the important moments and in the return, he never let Carlos breathe," said Vandeweghe.
"He was all over Carlos’ first and second serve, getting good depth on the return. It made the match happen so quickly for Carlos and that’s what these guys mean by 'on his terms.'
"The points were won and lost in five or fewer shots for the majority of this match. Dan could have been absolutely spot on with [his prediction of] straight sets for Sinner. It was just one little hiccup of two minutes."

Kyrgios – First of many Wimbledon titles for Sinner

Kyrgios touched on a "whirlwind" year for Sinner, who returned to action in May after a three-month ban for doping.
Sinner was suspended in February after failing two drug tests in March 2024.
He said on his return that the "unfair" ban left him feeling "fragile" but he has been in impressive form since, reaching finals at the Rome Masters and Roland-Garros - both of which he lost to Alcaraz - before his Wimbledon triumph.
"Mentally, it’s been a whirlwind of a year and a half for Sinner. With everything, not just the French Open final but with everything outside that was going on," Kyrgios said.
"Props to him for just getting back to the drawing board and coming out and playing some great tennis. This is one of many Wimbledon titles I’m assuming for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him come back and win a few more times.
"Props to everything – it’s not easy to go through all that and come back. I feel like when we see him get on his knees at the end of the match and tap the ground, it’s everything he’s going through or gone through. Props to him to let the racquet do the talking. Maybe I do need to take a page out of his book. No, I’m joking. I’ll never stop talking.
"The game plan was executed perfectly today. He lost the first but stuck to his guns. A couple of unforced errors, but the backhand line, dictating, he served amazingly at big moments and that helps on the grass."
