Karolina Muchova wins a thrilling match tie-break on Centre Court to defeat Coco Gauff in three sets and reach the 2026 Wimbledon final

Karolina Muchova reached her second Grand Slam final with a rollercoaster three-set victory over Coco Gauff.

The 2023 French Open runner-up belied her poor head-to-head record against the two-time Major winner to claim just her second win in eight meetings courtesy of a 6-2 1-6 7-6 success.

It was one-way traffic in the opener as Muchova showed real resilience to fend off five break points while ruthlessly exposing the American on the return.

It saw the Czech secure a double break and go on to serve out the first set in 39 minutes courtesy of a maiden ace of the match.

Gauff has made a habit of comebacks in her run to the last four and she ignited once again at the start of the second stanza with a raking backhand winner finally seeing her get reward on the return to lead 3-1.

The American was suddenly flawless as she broke again before serving out to love to force a decider.

The third set proved far more competitive, with Muchova resisting break points in the ninth game to battle into a match tie-break.

It proved to be significant as she saved match point before sealing victory 12-10 to book a spot in a Sunday showdown for the title with Marta Kostyuk or Linda Noskova.

Muchova (29y 312d at tournament start) is the oldest player to reach a maiden Women’s Singles final at Wimbledon since Nathalie Tauziat (30y 249d) in 1998.

The Czech follows it with an ace down the T but Coco scraps back into it with a wonderful cross court forehand pass before an all-court point ends with her edging back to 6-5 with a forecourt slice down the line.

Muchova can't keep her nose in front as a forehand clips the tape and flies wide to make it six apiece at the second change of ends.

For once, Gauff can’t slip a backhand volley over the net and it gives Karolina the early advantage via the mini break.

The Czech glides a volley to the line off her shoelaces with an S+V combo and moves 4-1 to the good with a thumping first serve.

It's there for the 10th seed to move further clear, but her block volley off Gauff's re-drop lands a smidgen long!

We will have a match tie-break (first to 10) to decide the first Wimbledon finalist of 2026 as Coco holds to 30 to avoid a late disaster.

Gauff refuses to budge as she brushes aside a plus-one backhand into the net at 30-0 to seal a dominant hold as Karolina loops a poor forehand long after a delightful cushioned volley had moved the American clear.

Karolina despatches a ruthless plus-one forehand back-in-behind the American but drills a lacklustre backhand into the net to give Coco a foothold in the game.

The Czech opens the door further with a stray backhand wide, but a supreme lunge volley gets her to Pulp (30-30).

The pressure mounts when Coco’s lightning return lures an awkward backhand riposte to snare the break point, but the seventh seed misses a backhand return off a second serve to allow Muchova a lifeline.

Its déjà vu on a second break point when the American loops a make-able forehand into the alley.

It’s as close as it gets as Coco drags a backhand off the island to allow the Czech to wriggle off the hook and apply some serious squeeze on the board.

Muchova tracks down a high-bouncing volley in the opening point of the game but fires a pass straight at Gauff, who bats a relieved winner to the open court.

The two-time Grand Slam champion romps through from there, popping away another volley off a blockbuster backhand approach and then claiming the hold to love with more cat and mouse brilliance in the forecourt.

Coco tries to turn the screw with a sensational overhead off a tricky lob.

Muchova responds with a pair of clutch first serves and an ace down the T to close-out a hold to 15.

Muchova comes out on top in a wonderful volley-off to apply some heat at Pulp (30-30) but Gauff digs in to earn game point and pumps her fist when Karolina lets her off the hook with a slice into the net.

This is a different Muchova now.

The 10th seed has got her Mojo flowing again on serve and keeps pushing the board with a clinical hold to 15.

After two lop-sided sets, we are getting the showdown we all hoped for.

Pure resilience from Coco as she swats away two break points before angling away a wonderful backhand volley en route to a dogged hold.

Muchova unloads on a big plus-one forehand and looks to have got some rhythm and timing back now.

Coco looks in control at 40-15 but slices just long on an approach to the net.

The American is her own worst enemy as she contrives to flash an easy bounce smash wide but is relieved when Karolina spews a forehand wide on the attack from deuce.

The Czech should really keep the heat on but butchers a forecourt forehand into the net to allow Gauff to complete a somewhat fortunate escape.

‘Sorry, not sorry,’ says Muchova as she offers a hand of apology when a crosscourt slice clips the tape and bobbles over for a winner.

The Czech left court for a reset in-between sets and this a strong start to the decider as she posts a love hold to open.
