SINNER SEES OFF BORGES IN THREE TO CONTINUE HIS TITLE DEFENCE AT WIMBLEDON 2026
Jannik Sinner delivered in the big moments as he booked a third-round clash with Jenson Brooksby courtesy of a straight sets win over Nuno Borges.
The reigning champion was far from his best, but the Portuguese underdog could not earn any reward for his endeavour as the Italian claimed a 7-6 7-6 6-4 victory on Centre Court.
The world number one missed three chances to break in the opening game of the contest but pulled clear to win a tie-break 7-4 and earn his reward for being patient in a 45-minute opener.
Borges took advantage of a surprise lull from the Italian to break in the third game of the second but fluffed his lines serving for the set, allowing Sinner to level at 5-5.
The four-time Major winner again found another gear in the tie-break to claim it 7-2 and leave the world number 48 deflated.
The third set opened with a trio of unexpected breaks before Sinner moved clear to serve out in two hours and 32 minutes.

Sinner opens with a double fault and is relieved to see Nuno’s fizzing forehand land just wide.
The Italian moves back on track with a wide ace but feels some heat at Pulp (30-30) as the Portuguese's low backhand down the line forces an error off the island.
A stunning drive volley earns match point but the top seed scorches a crosscourt forehand a millimetre wide.
Even Jannik grins at how close it was, but he gets a second chance with an efficient plus-one forehand.
This time he gets the job done as Borges skews a strange slice long.
