Jannik Sinner v Novak Djokovic - Wimbledon 2025 semi-final result as the top seed beats the seven-time champion to set final clash with Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner books his spot in a maiden Wimbledon final as he ruthlessly downs Novak Djokovic.

The Italian was a cut above the physically struggling seven-time champion as he eased into a fifth Grand Slam final and his fourth in a row.

The top seed serves out to 15 on his FOURTH match point to clinch victory in one hour and 55 minutes to secure a fifth success in a row over the Serb and move into a 6-4 lead in their H2H.

The three-time major winner will now face Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s showdown for the trophy in a repeat of their classic French Open tussle just last month.

For Djokovic, another chance to try and secure that elusive, stand-alone 25th singles major in the sport passes by as he loses in a semi-final in SW19 for the first time since 2012 and sees his run of six straight Wimbledon final appearances come to an end.

Nole lands two clutch serves to wipe out a couple of match points and poses the serve-out question with a crisp volley and an assist from Jannik as his return flashes long.

Djokovic unloads on a backhand pass down the line but then arrows a forehand long.

There’s no twist from there as Sinner bombs down more aces and another big serve to back up his break and move within a game of victory.

Djokovic’s movement appears to be more and more compromised as this set develops.

The seven-time champion tries to deploy the serve and volley but Sinner is ready for it, rasping scorching, low returns to force a trio of errors and secure the break.

The world number one was a whisker away from trailing 4-0 but he’s now two holds away from a place in the final.

All square.

Djokovic continues to wrestle with that forehand, showing how deadly it can be with a winner to the postage stamp.

However, it falters twice more and Sinner’s plus-one does the rest of the damage as he keeps his bid to win this in straight sets alive.

Djokovic continues to have trouble on the forehand, dragging two more tame strikes off that wing into the net as well as implausibly missing a sitter of a volley at the net.

The 24-time major winner then completes what is a breaking of his own serve with an awful dropper into the net.

The Sergb was close to the double break - but now Sinner has a chance to square the third set with a hold of serve...

This is a different Djokovic now.

The Serb guns a wrong-footing forehand winner down the line and then unleashes a thunderbolt off that wing to seize control of the next point, eventually popping away a simple volley to press at 0-30.

Sinner hits back with the aid of a backhand winner down the line but then wobbles with a bizarre miss into the net.

This time the top seed brushes off the BP with a bounce smash but is fortunate to see Djokovic rifle a forehand long after a super return had given him the chance to press again.

Jannik continues to struggle with a forehand into the net but finally finds the first serve and manages to avoid the double break.

Djokovic backs up the break with a hold to 15 and there’s definitely plenty for the Italian to think about now.

Sinner is cruising at 30-0 but when Djokovic springs into action with a superb crosscourt forehand pass, something goes wrong in the Italian’s game.

A tame backhand into the net is followed by a rash shank that coughs up break point.

There’s no reset either as the top seed blasts into the net from a neutral ball and suddenly this semi-final feels like a match for the first time.

Djokovic has treatment on his left leg between sets.

It seems to offer some relief as the sixth seed rises from his chair and rampages through a clean hold to kick off Set 3 on a positive note.

Does the comeback start here?

It’s a mammoth task, but if anyone can when it comes to tennis, Novak Djokovic is the most likely candidate.

Sinner shows signs of nerves as he double faults and then plays defensively in the ensuing point, only for Djoker to fluff his line with a backhand into the net to end a 15-shot rally.

The Italian takes a grip of the game with that trusty first serve and an ace down the T clinches the two-set advantage.

Sinner turns the screw as he slaps away Djoker’s stretch volley following a lovely backhand jab down the line.

Nole leans on the big serve to level from 0-30 but is undone by a stunning backhand down the line on the run that tees up set point.

Djokovic lands a pair of aces to turn the game around and lead from deuce, but Jannik attacks a half volley and again has the final say into the open court.

This time the sixth seed hangs tough and eventually poses the serve-out question as he leans all over the first serve to escape in a game lasting almost nine minutes.

Sinner makes his own life tricky with an early miscue but his rhythm is flowing so well on that first serve and he quickly surges clear again before Nole slams a forehand attempt down the line into the net to end the discussion at 15.

The repeated use of the serve and volley may be seen as a desperate measure from Novak, but it’s working time and time again.

Sinner can’t make any impact and the sixth seed stays in contention with a routine hold.

Sinner motors back from 0-15 as he executes a lovely backhand down the line under pressure before more hefty serving keeps him in charge.

The Italian then booms a ninth ace of the day down to seal the hold with a flourish.

Djokovic throws in a trio of serve and volley routines that work a treat.

A fourth sees him get burned but he finally finds some form on the forehand with a fabulous counter-punch crosscourt strike on the run.

Djokovic happily takes the fortune of a net cord but Sinner just keeps coming with that powerhouse serve and moves up to eight aces as he backs up the break to 15.

The Italian currently sits at 95% of first-serve points won.

Djokovic steadies the ship with an ace down the T after a weak forehand into the net was followed by a masterclass of a rally from Sinner that ended with the Italian lashing a forehand winner down the line.

Nole edges to Pulp (30-30) but is undone again by a special backhand down the line from his opponent.

Sinner jumps all over the second serve and the sixth seed crumbles with another wayward forehand. That flank has been woeful for the 24-time major winner so far today.

Too good – again.
