TOP SEED SINNER DOWNS THREE-TIME CHAMPION TO BOOK SPOT IN MAIDEN RG FINAL
Jannik Sinner will meet Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 French Open final after ending Novak Djokovic’s latest bid for a stand-alone 25th Grand Slam singles title in the sport.
The Italian world number one had the edge throughout a high-octane tussle as he stretched his winning streak in majors to 20 matches with a 6-4 7-5 7-6 victory.
Sinner looked the more-assured player throughout the first set and secured the only break in Game 5 before serving it out to love in 45 minutes.
The world number one fought off huge pressure from an improving Djokovic in the second and eventually served it out at the second time of asking following a dramatic exchange of late breaks.
Djokovic upped the ante further deep in the third but saw three set points erased by more clutch defence from the Italian.
Sinner came good again in the tie-break to seal it 7-3 and claim victory in three hours and 16 minutes.
