The Spaniard overcame the world number one to secure his second Roland-Garros crown courtesy of an epic 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6 success in five hours and 29 minutes.
The second seed prevailed 10-2 as he red-lined in the Championship tie-break to emulate the legendary Rafael Nadal by winning his fifth major title at the exact same age of 22 years, one month and three days.
After an exchange of breaks it was Sinner who bagged a hard-fought opener in 62 minutes when a trio of unforced errors saw the Spaniard cough up his serve for a second time.
The Italian blinked when serving for a two-set lead at 5-3 but wrestled back the momentum to take the tie-break 7-4.

Fittingly, the contest went right to the wire, but Alcarez rampaged clear in the decisive breaker to claim victory on his first match point in what goes down as the longest Roland-Garros men’s singles final in history.
