SCINTILLATING SINNER SURGES INTO SEMIS
Jannik Sinner made it back-to-back French Open semi-final appearances with a ruthless victory over Alexander Bublik.
The world number one continued his imperious charge through the top half of the draw with a 6-1 7-5 6-0 success to set-up a last four showdown with Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev.
The Italian made another lightning start as he raced into a 5-0 lead before serving out the opener in 35 minutes.
Bublik found more rhythm on serve in a much more competitive second set but double faulted on a second break point in Game 11 to allow the top seed to go on and serve it out.
Sinner broke again right at the start of the third and raced clear from there to seal the win in one hour and 49 minutes.
The three-time Grand Slam champion is into the sixth major semi-final of his career and is yet to drop a set.

BREAK! – SINNER 6-1 7-5 3-0 BUBLIK
The writing looks to be on the wall for Alexander as he coughs up three more break points, but a supreme serve and volley and two more clutch deliveries wipe all of them out.
The Kazakh earns game point when Sinner lobs long, but a poor drop shot is followed by another failure on the half volley to tee up a fourth BP.
Huge serving flips the script once more but a poor decision to try an underarm serve that sails into the net ends with Jannik keeping the heat on.
Bublik can’t convert with a serve and volley attempt that dumps into the net to offer up a fifth opportunity...
And this time the three-time major winner booms a backhand down the line to get that double break.

SINNER 6-1 7-5 2-0 BUBLIK
There’s a humorous moment as Bublik grins and asks Jannik to ‘give me a break’ as Sinner questions whether there was a let cord prior to the return winner.
It comes at 40-0 and seems to free up the world number 62 who injects some serious pace into a forehand-to-forehand exchange to get a bit closer.
Sinner being Sinner immediately slams the door shut and backs up the break with a hold to 30.

BREAK! – SINNER 6-1 7-5 1-0 BUBLIK
There’s a real lull from Bublik as the deflation of blinking late in the second set leaks into his game at the start of the third.
Sinner senses the moment and tees up two break points with the Kazakh making a mess of a drop volley at his feet to hand it over with a whimper.

BREAK! – SINNER 6-1 6-5 BUBLIK
Sinner reaches far to his left to claw back a stunning return off a thunderbolt serve and rush a reflex long from his opponent.
The top seed seems locked-in as he sizzles a forehand down the line and then handles a low slice perfectly to tee up two break points.
Bublik saves ones with relentless forehands to the line and a drive volley back in-behind.
The world number 62 then double faults at the worst possible time and all that hard work could be for nothing.
16:35
SINNER 6-1 5-5 BUBLIK
Bublik is disappointed with himself as he shanks a wild miscue into the crowd.
It sees a glimmer of hope at 0-15 quickly run away as the Italian works his way to game point with a big serve and then darts forward to slam away the crosscourt winner.
16:30
SINNER 6-1 4-5 BUBLIK
Jannik is getting nowhere near a host of these feathered droppers.
It’s such a juxtaposition with the ferocity of the serve followed by sublime feel and velvety touch.
This is no longer the certainty it appeared to be as Alexander eases to a classy game to 15 to apply some scoreboard pressure.
16:27
SINNER 6-1 4-4 BUBLIK
Sinner is pretty much always poker-faced but he has been snatching at some forehands of late which is perhaps a window into his inner frustrations.
Bublik has a half chance at 15-30 but misses his lines on the return.
Jannik lands a lovely crosscourt forehand wrong-footer but is undone by another beautiful drop shot to go again at deuce.
The world number one is bold on the drive volley approach and just about reaches the overhead to angle away a winner before a clutch serve ends the discussion.
16:20
SINNER 6-1 3-4 BUBLIK
Jannik has his first look-in for a while when he pounces on a poor drop shot and sweeps a winner down the line to make 30-30.
Bublik then offers up break point with a near miss but gets on top in the next rally and his dropper tees him up for a pass that Sinner can only block into the net on the stretch.
The pair trade heavyweight blows at deuce, but it’s Bublik who wins the mini battle with a sensational 101 mph forehand down the line.
The Kazakh paints the lines in the ensuing point and polishes off a hold with a simple volley to conclude the game of the match so far.
16:15
SINNER 6-1 3-3 BUBLIK
Who will blink first?
Sinner’s machine-like accuracy on the serve and on his groundstrokes make him almost untouchable with another hold for the loss of just one point.
16:12
SINNER 6-1 2-3 BUBLIK
The Kazakh has got that service mojo flowing very nicely now.
A double fault at 40-0 can’t disrupt his rhythm as another powerhouse delivery helps him easily keep his nose in front.

16:10
SINNER 6-1 2-2 BUBLIK
Sinner’s serve also does the heavy-lifting as he breezes through a game to 15.
16:05
SINNER 6-1 1-2 BUBLIK
Alexander is landing his gigantic serve more frequently now.
He double faults to give Jannik a glimmer at deuce but quickly makes amends with a pair of clutch deliveries to nudge the board and improve on his first-set tally.
16:01
SINNER 6-1 1-1 BUBLIK
Sinner retorts with a blink and you’ll miss it clean hold to quickly level up.
15:59
SINNER 6-1 0-1 BUBLIK
There were signs late in the opener that Bublik was beginning to have some say in this match.
Sinner was cruising through those first few games, but he had to work a little bit harder to see it out.
Indeed, Bublik makes a positive start in the second as he opens with a bewitching dropper and goes on to chalk up a morale-boosting hold to 15.
