DJOKOVIC HITS TOP GEAR TO OUTCLASS ZVEREV
Novak Djokovic will take on world number one Jannik Sinner in a blockbuster semi-final after ending Alexander Zverev’s hopes of landing a maiden major title at the 2025 French Open.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion came from a set down to triumph 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in three hours and 17 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The German struck an early blow when he broke in the opening game of the contest and Djokovic could not rescue the situation as the third seed served out a solid first set in 46 minutes.
The three-time Roland-Garros champion responded in the second and broke for a 3-1 lead when Zverev’s backhand was harshly adjudged to have drifted long.

The Serb went on to tie the match as he produced a sumptuous drop shot to win one of the rallies of the match on his third set point.
Djokovic continued to raise his level and took charge in the fifth game of the third when Zverev’s forehand misfired to cough up the break. It was part of a devastating sequence that saw the sixth seed win seven games in a row.
Last year’s finalist, Zverev had no answer as Djokovic continually unlocked his opponent with magnificent use of the drop shot and the 38-year-old closed-out the win on his fifth match point in the fourth to reach the last four in Paris for the 13th time.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-6 4-6 DJOKOVIC
Djokovic flummoxes Zverev with yet another drop shot to earn breathing space at 30-0.
The sixth seed then feathers one into the net before immense defence and yes, another dropper, helps set up a simple pass into the open court to conjure up two match points.
It seems over, but Zverev suddenly starts striking the ball massively and staves off both to make DEUCE!
Djokovic rectifies the situation and points to his head as he earns a third opportunity, but he blinks first on the backhand-to-backhand exchange and finds the net.
The Serb deploys a serve and volley to clock up a FOURTH chance, but again Zverev survives with a smash down the middle.
A clutch serve tees up a FIFTH MP and this time Nole Zverev thrashes the dropper pick-up long!

Once again Zverev is left looking dejected as Djokovic’s hopeful defensive lob just about lands in and he can only respond with a rushed bounce smash long.
The Serb goes on to post a most-welcome love hold and he is now only one game away from victory and a place in the last four.

Is the Serbinator in energy-conservation mode?
It seemed like it for most of that game but when Zverev thudded a forehand long at 40-0 the 24-time major suddenly came to life to engage in another brutal rally.
This time his touch is just off as a dropper flies into the net to allow the third seed to stay on contention.

ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-6 2-4 DJOKOVIC
Djokovic briefly drops off God-mode and offers Zverev a glimmer of hope.
The Serb slaps an inside-in forehand into the net to open and it seems to unnerve him.
Zverev picks up a dropper and prods it down the line to earn a break point, leading to a lung-busting 41-shot rally that Sascha really should win.
The German doesn’t do enough with two overheads and when Nole deploys the drop shot again he is able to come in and lash away the pass.
Zverev makes the 38-year-old hang tough for a while but can’t manufacture another opening and Novak finally comes good to clinch an arduous hold.

Djokovic goes on the attack at 40-30 down as he tries to up the ante by pushing to deuce in search of a killer blow.
He looks to be on course as he dominates the point, only for Zverev to dig out the drop volley and blast his own volley right at the Serb, who can’t get out of the way!

ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-6 1-3 DJOKOVIC
Zverev gets a slice of fortune with a dead cord off a backhand attempt to snare the opening point on the Nole serve.
Djokovic takes control again but when he blasts a forehand attempt into the tramlines the third seed has an opening at deuce.
The German’s supporters quickly have their hopes extinguished as Djoker deploys the dropper tactic to perfection again and wastes little time bagging the hold from there.

Djokovic has Sascha on a string, moving him, sending him back and then nonchalantly popping away volleys and winners.
It really does have Zverev confused and a touch lost.
Nole is all business as he notches up a seventh game on the spin to back up the break to 15.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-5 DJOKOVIC
The frustration and disappointment is filtering into Zverev’s game now.
The usually solid German leaks some sloppy errors and when his reflex volley from another cat and mouse via the dropper goes long, so do his hopes of winning this set.
Djokovic has the insurance and will now serve for a 2-1 lead.

ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-4 DJOKOVIC
For once the drop-shot tactic doesn’t pay dividends as Nole contrives to bat a sitter of a volley wide.
It’s the only blot on his copybook as he rifles a pristine forehand down the line to consolidate in style.

BREAK! – ZVEREV 6-4 3-6 2-3 DJOKOVIC
Zverev is content to keep trading from the baseline on a big point at 30-30 but he is again caught out by a wonderful dropper from deep.
The German replies with a clutch serve to reach deuce but can’t convert game point and Djokovic drags him from side to side before earning a second opportunity with some solid volleys.
Zverev has been so resilient for the large part but he snatches at a forehand this time and sizzles it into the tramlines to give the former world number one the breakthrough.
