Andreev of Russia now faces James Blake for a place in the semi final.
On other matches, Roger Federer eased past Richard Gasquet, Jarkko Nieminen ended Marat Safin's good run, James Blake was 6-3 3-0 up on Tommy Haas before the German retired, Paradorn Srichapan upset David Nalbandian, in-form Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis beat Tomas Berdych, Ivan Ljubicic beat Mario Ancic and Rafa Nadal slammed Sebastian Grosjean.
The Roddick-Andreev match started off well for the Russian when he immediatly broke the mighty serve of the American in the first game of the match and took the first set 6-4. During the second set Roddick relied on his powerful serve to take the set to a tiebreaker which he won 7-6 (5).
Andreev played an impressive and consistent game throughout the match whereas Roddick had trouble with his serve and made 41 unforced errors. In the third set Andreev had no trouble breaking the serve of the A-rod and finished the set quickly with 6-1.
Former world number one Roddick, who has yet to win a title this year, was furious with himself, swearing and breaking his racket in the sixth game of the final set and receiving a point penalty.
FRUSTRATION
After playing a fine tiebreaker to level the contest at one set all, Roddick collapsed in the first game of the third set, failing to convert three break points.
Flustered by his inability to deliver, the American completely imploded.
"I don't know what the hell I did. I went on walkabout and gave up the next game. It was just like a blur."
While Roddick won five titles last year and reached the Wimbledon final, he has been unable to find the level that brought him to the top of the rankings in 2003.
"I'm not going to sit here and put on my fun face," Roddick said. "I'm not happy. I'm mad with the way I played. It's just frustration. We've all been there, except I have people watching when I break something."
