Carlos Alcaraz 'practically unbeatable' despite Jannik Sinner raising game in 2025 season, claims Alex Corretja

Former French Open finalist Alex Corretja praised Carlos Alcaraz, calling his compatriot "practically unbeatable", despite Jannik Sinner's improvement in 2025. Alcaraz returned to the world No. 1 spot in November and won both the US Open and French Open, taking his Grand Slam total to six at the age of just 22. But the 51-year-old suggested Brit Jack Draper could break the Sinner-Alcaraz duopoly.

Former French Open finalist Alex Corretja hailed compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, calling his compatriot "practically unbeatable".
Alcaraz returned to the No. 1 spot in the world in November and won both the French Open and US Open in another stellar year for the 22-year-old.
Those two majors took him to a total of six Grand Slam titles already, and with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal retired, and Novak Djokovic now 38, there is a new duo in charge, with Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner dominating the men’s game.
Their duopoly, which has seen either of them win the last eight majors dating back to the 2023 US Open, when Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam title, has Corretja excited for 2026.
The 51-year-old told Eurosport Spain: "This year has been exciting because both Alcaraz and Sinner have raised their tennis game even higher.
"I think Carlos has shown that when he is fit and mentally, emotionally and, above all, physically stable, he is practically unbeatable.

"He is a very powerful player who has taken his abilities to the maximum in every match.
"It's crazy what he's achieved with so many titles, especially the Roland-Garros final. I think it was almost a miracle what he achieved, through determination and a lot of strength, and then he sealed it by also winning in New York.
"I think it was very good for him to recover after losing the Wimbledon final to Sinner, where it seemed that Sinner had found a way to beat him tactically and mentally.
"The big titles have been shared, as Jannik also won the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, and the Masters final once again sets the scene for Sinner and Alcaraz to be the dominant players of 2026, with the exception of a few players who could certainly hurt them."

Draper tipped to cause top duo problems
When asked who Corretja felt could disrupt the ominous flow of Sinner and Alcaraz, the former World No. 2 name-checked Jack Draper.
Draper, still only 23 and ranked world No. 10, has struggled with injuries but showed his potential major-winning credentials when he reached the 2024 US Open semi-finals.
That run, which saw him defeated in straight sets by eventual winner Sinner, paired with his first ATP title win at Indian Wells in March, has made Corretja believe he is going to be very difficult to beat when back in full flow.
"Sinner and Alcaraz play at a very high level, at tremendous speed and, above all, with an intensity that is very difficult to keep up with," Corretja added.
"I think they hit the ball very hard and make very few mistakes. I think that has been one of the biggest balances Alcaraz has found during 2025: he has stopped making so many mistakes and unforced errors against Sinner, who always imposes a very high pace, playing at full throttle, always at 100%.

"That is why I think it is a very good rivalry for tennis, which makes it very interesting, although there is no doubt that it will also be positive for players to emerge who can hurt them.
"Like who? We'll see how Jack Draper has recovered, as he hasn't competed for a long time and I think that, when he's fit, he'll be one of the most difficult players to beat.
"We'll see if Ben Shelton gradually finds his tennis level and also his stability.
"What will happen with [Joao] Fonseca? I hope it will be a good year for the Brazilian, because he has a lot of potential and a lot of tennis, and he is someone who, if he is physically and mentally prepared, could start to shine in the big tournaments and perhaps be ready to compete with the best.
"From there, we will see how the circuit continues to develop, because I am convinced that other players will also emerge. Maybe [Lorenzo] Musetti can have a great year; we will see if [Alexander] Zverev stays at the top and if [Daniil] Medvedev, or some of the others, recover and make headlines again."
