Ronnie O’Sullivan said he hopes to use his World Seniors Championship victory as a springboard to ”finish my career on a strong note” after admitting his confidence has been ”quite low”.

In the Crucible Theatre that has witnessed O’Sullivan win seven World Championships, most recently in 2022, ‘The Rocket’ defeated Joe Perry 10-4 to win his first Seniors title.
By defeating Perry, O’Sullivan became the first player to win the World Championship, Under-21 World Championship and Seniors World Championship, and broke a barren run of over two years since he won the World Masters in March 2024.
”I came out and just tried to play match snooker, try and use my brain, play the right shot a little bit because this afternoon I was going for a lot,” O’Sullivan told Channel 5.
”That is sometimes how I like to play. I have not been playing great these three years, my confidence is quite low and when I was getting into little situations, I was missing a few, I am just thinking 'I never used to miss those balls'.
”But if I can get my confidence going then I would like to finish my career on a strong note so that is my ambition left in the game.”

In a rematch of the 2017 Masters final, O’Sullivan raced into a 4-1 lead featuring two century breaks before Perry recovered to win two hard-fought frames and cut his deficit to 5-3 at the start of the final session.
But although Perry started the evening strongly, O’Sullivan responded in style, winning the next five frames, including two more centuries, to banish the disappointment of his second-round defeat to John Higgins at the same venue in April.
”This has been a tough tournament to win, every match I played felt hard,” O’Sullivan said. ”I know it might not have looked it, but these guys are experienced competitors so some of the games I had to really dig deep and I did not expect I would have to.
”It has been a great week. Honestly, Joe if he wanted to still play on the tour he could definitely still compete in the latter stages of tournaments but he is enjoying his career doing punditry and everyone loves watching him do what he does there. He has been a great servant to the sport.
”I came out, I just wanted to enjoy the game, I did not want to get bogged down and I just wanted to come and attack the balls but there is always a risk with that, that you leave some easy opportunities and I just thought ‘I have got to try and dig deep tonight’.”
