Tessa Worley claims giant slalom in Soelden

The French world champion was four tenths of a second from the top after the first run but made the time back in the second attempt.

In second was Italiy's Federica Brignone, trailing by 0.35, and Olympic champion Mikael Shiffrin was just under a second back in third, trailing by 0.94.

Snow fall and clouds had forced the race organisers to lower the gate, making for difficult conditions.

Worley said: "Yes, it was a huge ride.

"The slope was very bumpy, very difficult - we couldn't see much.

"I knew it was going to be a fight with the slope but also with all the other girls, so I just wanted to charge, have no regrets at the end.

"It's so cool to feel this again."

Worley explained what went right for her in he first win at Soelden after 11 failed efforts.

"I was used to, at the beginning of the season, being a little tense, not being able to deliver on my skiing.

"I think it was much better today."
