RED ROSES MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RUN WITH SECOND HALF ROUT
England scored seven tries as they demolished Australia 47-7, a record-equaling 30th consecutive Test win.
Forwards Sadia Kabeya and Kelsey Clifford scored a brace of tries each as the Red Roses’ forward pack proved too strong for the Wallaroos.
Australia needed to avoid a heavy defeat to book their place in the quarter-finals and could have topped the group with victory.
Despite the host nation being firm favourites, Australia provided an early test and Adiana Talakai gave them a sixth-minute lead.
Jess Breach pulled a try back for England, but it was not until Abbie Ward went over on 32 minutes that the host nation went ahead.
Kabeya also scored to give the Red Roses a 19-7 half-time lead before the floodgates opened in the second half as Clifford and Sarah Bern also joined the try scoring.
Australia held the deficit to book a quarter-final against Canada next Saturday, meanwhile England face Scotland on Sunday (16:00 UK time).

KABEYA HOPES ENGLAND’S PACK ARE ‘FEARED’
England flanker Sadia Kabeya hopes her side’s pack are "feared" after six of their seven tries against Australia came from forwards.
"You could see from the first half we definitely got put under a lot of pressure, which we needed," said Kabeya to BBC Sport.
"There is a lot of stuff to work on going forwards. We grounded it out and got the result in the end.
"We have a lot of trust in the plan and there was a few tweaks we needed to make [at half-time]. We just had to go out there and do what we needed to do.
"We’ve got huge carriers across our pack and we’ve got threats across the park.
"Hopefully with that performance today our forward pack is very feared. We will take each game as it comes and do our analysis."

MATTHEWS PROUD OF PERFORMANCE
England skipper Alex Matthews said she was proud of her side’s performance as they beat Australia by 40 points.
"I’m so proud of the girls, we didn’t have the momentum in the first half, we stuck at it, we stuck to our game plan and came out on top," Matthews told BBC Sport.
"That’s the challenge that everybody out there has wanted us to have. We have shown that we can do it. Our line-out didn’t function how it usually does, Australia’s kicking game was phenomenal and really tested our back field.
"Our subs were phenomenal and we couldn’t do it without our whole squad."
